Worst Acting in a Major Movie (Name your examples)
Self | June 26, 2011 | PJ-Comix

I was just watching the original "True Grit" starring John Wayne. Yes, he deserved his Oscar for the role of Rooster Cogburn but opposite him was someone who played his part horribly. I am talking about Glenn Campbell as the Texas Ranger. Sheesh! Talk about stilted delivery. Really bad. Another example of bad acting was also in a John Wayne movie---"The Alamo." It was Frankie Avalon as Smitty who was supposed to be a young Tennessee frontiersman. I like Frankie Avalon in the beach flicks but, let's face it, he was waaay too urban to be believable in the role of Smitty. Whenever I see "The Alamo," it is impossible to forget that this is just a movie because of Frankie Avalon's completely unconvincing acting.

There are many other major movies with examples of really horrible acting. I cited a couple of such examples, so please list yours.

“If you took Val Kilmer’s “Doc Holliday” out of “Tombstone” it would have been a boring film.”
Well, it is true that Kilmer made that film. His performance was riveting. Without him playing off the other actors, it may have been a bit wooden. I also did not like the love affair of Earp and that theatre gal angle in Tombstone. Silly. It was the relationship of Earp and Holliday that made the drama crackle in the movie. It also made for really good gunslinging scenes. Earp’s adulterous leanings did not need to have such an exalted place in the film’s unfolding drama. I don’t keep up with awards, but did Kilmer get any kind of official recognition for the Doc Holliday portrayal? He should have gotten an academy award in my opinion. I never tire of that performance.

Richard Gere as “King David”. So bad, it was funny.

Oh, yes. I had forgotten about that awful movie. I will never forget him dancing as they brought the ark of the covenant into Jerusalem. Embarrassing.

I challenge anyone here to name a movie with Will Farrel or Adam Sandler that they thought they were good in. Matter of fact I bet you can't even name one of their movies that you thought was good, let alone the acting. They got to be the two worst nobodies to come out of Sat. Night Live.

For the few minutes I watched of it, the scenery is amazing. But when a 6’4, white guy, nicknamed, ‘The Duke’ came on the scene with three little whiskers on each side of his nose, playing the part of a Mongolian man, whose height was closer to 5’6, I changed the channel really quick because I knew this movie wasn’t going to work for me.

Teen heartthrobs in that time period being put into movies were horrid.

I love his music, but check out the wooden acting of Ricky Nelson in Wackiest Ship in the Army.

Or Tab Hunter in Damn Yankees. Both movies I love.

Let’s not forget Raquel Welch in “Clan of the Cave Bear” or Theresa Russell in “Whore”.

And of course John Travolta and Lily Tomlin in “Moment by Moment”, a film that was so bad that it closed a couple of days after opening because the audiences broke up in uncontrollable laughter even though the film was supposed to be a serious drama.

"The story or plot was also much better than average."

Uh, the story or plot of Forbidden Planet comes from a play called The Tempest written by a fellow named William Shakespeare. He may also have created the character of Robby the Robot, I forget.

I love the Duke but the movie where he plays a Fed in Hawaii looking for commies

Big Jim McLaine. Also the actors playing commies in that flick were completely unconvincing. The worst role was the guy playing an Hawaiian police official. Actually I think he really was an Hawaiian police official.

“Johnny Guitar” - the worst job of acting. I nearly got killed in order to finish watching this flick.

This one needs a “Like” button.

By far the worst performance ever (by a guy)...Andie MacDowell in “Green Card” runs a VERY close second...

I was lazy...everyone in the movie “Giant”. Had to see it 5 times since the acting was such a yawner, it knocked me out.

I don't know who this kid is (or was,) and what movie(s) these scenes come from, but I think he's the undisputed champ of this category...
