James Bond back in novel penned by American bestseller

Fittingly for the launch of the new authorized James Bond novel "Carte Blanche," there was a luxury car, champagne on tap, crack British troops abseiling from the rafters and a long-legged girl on a vintage motorbike.

The promotion of American crime writer Jeffery Deaver's book about 007 and his latest escapades, which hits shelves on Thursday, was more like Hollywood than the usually more low-key world of publishing.

If one had the coin, one could get this white leather bound limited edition book and accompanying aluminum Bentley-esque case for only $1650.00 US, or £1,000 if you're in the UK.

To me, it doesn’t seem right that an American would write a James Bond Novel. Thats like an American writing a new Horatio Hornblower novel or an Englishman writing a new Phillip Marlowe story.

For that kind of money, I’d expect the book to be read to me by a Bond girl.

trust me it's a very great car

Though 550hp is a little silly on a 2 x 4 island with a speed limit of 30mph ... but can you ever have too much horsepower?

No that's a 220i ... they only made 400 of those

much cooler than any of the bling which shouts 'mug me'

and a much better timepiece on every level

don't know Pike

She has had plenty of room to stretch her legs on trips up on the mainland and up on Sugarloaf and on Blimp and Card Sound Roads.

It's an amazingly mannerly car at idle or at speed ... it's ever so smooth and has a lovely throaty rumble at your right toe

Turn off the traction control and you can order a new set of tires that afternoon

It's an extreemly heavy beast which goes wherever you point it and a seemingly unending torque band .... and has been very reliable
