Update: Cruz Did In Fact Disclose the Goldman Sachs Loan
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3383599/posts?q=1&;page=151

I’m glad. Who could know me and think I wanted a Tea Party leader to crash-and-burn? This is called ‘vetting’.

I don’t know a thing about the kind of loan he had, but sphinx wrote ...

‘Per a Cruz video clip, it was a loan against his own brokerage account at Goldman Sachs. So: a loan against his own assets, not a loan from Goldman Sachs.’

Those are the kind of posts I respect. Well done, sphinx.

Now the only problem is perception — a misfiling or effort to hide how rich he was? I dunno if there in fact was a filing error and how democrats could use it. Many Cruz critics wonder of course. The vetting continues.

Tbank you for the update! They should also hire a private investigator to find out if one of the judges is coordinating with the DNC to direct campaign ads in funny places.

Cruz didn't hide the loan. It was fully reported on his Senate financial disclosure forms. It has been public information from day one.

With regard to the FEC reporting, there is a two-step involved. Cruz took a brokerage loan from Goldman Sachs (reported on his Senate financial disclosure). He then used those funds to make a personal loan to the campaign. This personal loan WAS reported by the campaign to the FEC, although a lot of careless commentary is losing sight of this. I presume it was also reported on his Senate financial disclosure; that doesn't seem to be in question.

What the campaign failed to report was the fact that the funds Cruz loaned to it were a pass-through of Cruz's earlier brokerage loan. This is not a wrinkle I had ever thought about and am frankly a little surprised to find that it is apparently required. I am also reasonably confident that none of the reporters and pundits hyperventilating over this oversight had any idea either.

I have never filled out an FEC report and have no idea of the details. The campaign is required to report contributions and loans, which it did. I was not aware that the campaign had any obligation to report anything beyond that, such as where a donor got the funds to contribute. This is new to me. I'm guessing that it is a rule that applies only to the candidates themselves, or perhaps to close family. If I wrote a big check tomorrow to the Cruz campaign (as if I had the money to play in the big leagues), I do not think the campaign is under any obligation to report how I got the funds. Nor should it be.

Quarter of Republicans think Cruz’s birthplace disqualifies him for president: poll
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3383942/posts

The ‘G’ OP has found a way to sabotage us. Cruz gets sympathy now, and after the primary, they have a contingency plan to pull the rug out from under him. In the meantime, Trump and Cruz supporters slug it out viciously. While Majority Leader Mc-Conman laughs.

‘25% is a big chunk of the voter pool.’

That is chump-change compared to Phase Two.

After the primary, that would be a BIPARTIZAN majority.

I don’t think this is at all fair to Cruz, but until he challenges Professor Laurence Tribe to a debate, Trump and Cruz supporters are locked in a cage fight of the ‘G’ OP’s making.

[More about Tribe and the Supreme Court meddling coming up.]

How Cruz Can Come Out of This

Other than assurances of perosnal opinion by SCOTUS justices as individuals, I think it would be risky for Cruz to take this to the Supreme Court. Why? Chief ‘Just-us’ Roberts.

Roberts is a creep. I could imagine him stalling out the ruling until after the freaking election, and all the activist-leftist judges would put on pom-poms to cheer him.

Not saying that would happen, but it’s a gamble. Roberts is so self-contradictory that he acts like he has been blackmailed.

All Cruz supporters say that this is an easy issue to resolve. So?

Cruz is the best debator. Cruz is the most revered conservative constitutional scholar. And Professor Laurence Tribe? Far more respected than he deserves to be. Tribe would likely refuse to debate him.

~~~~~~~~~
Why Tribe?
Cruz already mocked Trump for mentioning the professor regarding this issue. Tribe is one of the top progressive constitutional scholars there is. Maybe THE top. Been that way for decades. By takeing him down, Cruz would get a feather in his cap, advance conservatism, deconsctruct progressive interpretation of the constitution, and END this issue once and for all.
If the supreme court meddles after that, Trump would be more than a mere president, but a champion — a titan who could then call for the Constitution to be amendmended and AND judicial tyranny once and for all.
BUT ... if Cruz lets this issue fester, he loses his reputation.
Somone said that if Cruz were against Reagan, they’d be against him just like Trump.
That got me thinking.
Actually, Cruz might well be a stronger constitutionalist than Reagan, who got rolled with supreme court nominees.
I’m happy if Cruz gets elected. Just want to vet him before Iowa/New Hampshire and tend to favor Trump.
I don’t want to see any Tea Party leader get in trouble, but dangit! We have to know within a few weeks if Cruz is vulnerable.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Regarding Goldman Sachs Loan...

Greetings Puny Humans Challenges Red State’s honesty:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3383649/posts?page=6#6

The Challenge

[quote]

Erick Erickson’s homo Red State doing their best to cover up for Cruz.

[unquote]

The Shell-Game ...

That form is not to the FEC. July is when Cruz had already beaten Dewhurst, and the money listed therein is said to only be between 100 to 200 thousand.

[unquote]

A watered-down trick — ‘I sent the form’ ... no, not THE form, a form to someone else.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And ... watered down amount of money ...
[quote]
That is a financial disclosure form, with Cruz’s debt being listed as part of his personal liabilities (iow, does not disclose he used this money for his campaign.) It’s not the entire loan either.
[unquote]
It was closer to a MILLION dollars, right? Not 200 thousand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ducking the FEC ...

[quote]

Also, the filing for the FEC is more vigorous, since the entire purpose is to make sure there was no hanky panky between Goldman Sachs— of which Heidi Cruz was VP for— and the Cruz campaign, so Ted is required to give them all the paperwork for the loan to insure that nothing untoward was going on.

[unquote]

So yeah, he sent a form, but not to the FEC which does REAL campaign finance investigation [which I hate, BTW — campaign finance laws are too complicated and perverse, which helps the Establishment/Ruling Class destroy less-than mega-rich tea party candidates.]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now for the press spin and apparent coverup ....
[quote]
The ‘press’ information Red State cites is from 2013, obviously after the campaign was already over, and after Cruz had sold his supporters on the idea that he had liquidated all his assets and put them toward the campaign.
Liz Wonders about Cruz’ Goldman Sachs Quote being Tied with H-1B visas:
[BTW, I personally want skilled immigrants fast-tracked into the US if the employer is willing to pay for extensive security clearance. That is the official reason for H1-B1 visas, but Obama is abusing them.]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

LIZ:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3383564/posts?page=144#144

CLARIFICATION: In what is clearly a pre-meditated move (to give himself cover), Cruz did disclose the loan....BUT not on the FEC form required by law. Says he will now amend the FEC form.

Is this why?

The G/S loan is a bigger problem for Cruz than most candidates b/c of the way he/s structured his campaign.

He fashions himself a critic of big banks and Wall Street....says he/s just a Texas rube who/ll never have his name on a plane.

<><> But the whopper G/S loan makes him look like a
slick pol, a powermonger who/ll go against his own principles to get into office.

<><> The loan also reflects on Cruz/s eagerness to greatly expand H-1B visas.

UT OH—QUID PRO QUO LOOMS Goldman Sachs employs hundreds of H-1B visa holders. Cruz/s drumbeat for H-1B/s never mentions that he was on the hook to H-1B user Goldman for over a million.

FLIP FLOPPING AWAY Now, of course, Cruz wants to end H-1B visas. Maybe the terms of the loan have been amended?

[We’re both getting pleasantly ‘hardball’ with each other. I know for a fact you are brilliant and you can ‘handle’ my fast balls.]

Adding your Trump critiquing here because I find the possibility of mob ties to be worthy of discussion:

‘I seriously doubt that we know diddly about [Trump’s] dealings with the mob to buy peace in building a casino in Atlantic City.’

Hey, that’s worth thinking about. But like I said, Trump has destroyed the Bush Dynasty’s claim to power. They would leak info about him via proxies in a heartbeat. So either Trump is a really really powerful super-mobster who had threatened Bush family children, or he kept out of criminal activity altogether.

You add:

‘Trump has done plenty to discredit himself with inconsistencies, but he has the media to redirect scrutiny and a delusional fan base to defend him. LOOK, SQUIRREL!!!’

Valid point. Trump has transformed quite recently. I personally think it’s because he’s surfing in the Information Revolution and caught a wave a year or so ago. It was bound to happen that former liberals would rapidly transform into amazing conservatives.

‘That said, I was very disappointed with Cruz last night in his response to Cavuto about H-1B visas.’

I like the concept of skilled labor being fast tracked into the US, but Obama exploited loopholes.

I agree with you, sphinx, that FEC rules are byzantine, a landmine that the Ruling Class uses to take out conservative threats. Cruz being a Tea Party leader, he’s a prime target.
