Fox Reno ^ | September 11, 2010

Two women were still recovering Saturday after a vicious dog attack the morning before that didn't end until neighbors shot the dogs.

Witnesses said that at about 6 a.m. Friday, three loose dogs pounced on 52-year-old Janelle Dalson, who was on a jog through her neighborhood. The woman’s screams woke one neighbor, who came outside to find her fending off the three dogs, which collectively weighed nearly 300 pounds.

The whole story

I read several newspaper accounts which seemed to downplay the neighbors saving the women by shooting the dogs. But this story tells the whole story.

Dalson remained hospitalized Saturday, reportedly facing some paralysis because of the attack, which could end her career as a dental hygienist.

Not a good ad for Walther, is it. Wonder what the second guy was carrying?

Well, A PPK 380, Gary Paquet was under gunned, and it took John Bettencourt, with an unidentified handgun to close the engagement.

The leftie gun controllers and police brass will be very quiet on this one, even though they'd like to see Paquet and Bettencourt in jail, and PETA would like to see the women dead but the dogs unharmed.

The MSM can't color this one as bad black guns going around killing little kids.

Walther makes a great pistol. I have to believe that the guy limp wristed it and allowed the casing to get caught in the breech. BTW, hasn’t he ever cleared a jammed weapon before?

Sure they can. I can see the headlines written by Sarah Brady now: "Beloved Family Pets Brutally Killed by Gun Owners".

Oh come on. there’s no way to know that. that guy is old. his gun is probably just as old and never been cleaned or oiled. His ammo is probably 30 years old.

that’s why I like revolvers. you can leave them laying neglected in a drawer for half a century loaded up and they will still work.

Revolvers are more reliable under ideal conditions. Autos have fewer paths to the inside, and thus are less subject to abuse. That is why Revolvers are not a favorite in the Sandbox. My .45 ACP revolver by my bedside is pretty close to ideal conditions.

He's probably like most suburban gun owners. He owns a handgun that he has only fired once in ten years. He has likely never practiced clearing a jam.

He was lucky he got one shot off, and that he was close enough not to miss.

Still, I'm glad that he did what he could.

Crap, bad html.....A gun is only as good as the owner and how well they maintain it....

Yep, later years of production shifted the numbers toward the more popular 9MM bore, and the 32's didn't tend to jam as much, so I'm guessing 380. Gary was under gunned with either.

Yeah, I’m a go to revolver guy too, best result in these type of situations.

Not surprising for Bay Area "news"papers.

I have to believe that the guy limp wristed it and allowed the casing to get caught in the breech.

If that's the case, it's still a bad ad for Walther. You can have all kinds of situations, and the right weapon will work if you are hanging upside down or laying on the ground or fighting dogs with it. This one failed. There are a few complaints on forums, but I have no personal opinion on its reliability.

ten bucks says he never put enough rounds through it to break it in...

i've had two, a blue and a stainless, and had to put two hundred rounds through them before i trusted my life with them

they both prefer Federals

Yep. I read a story where an old guy had bought a revolver for personal protection and kept it laying on the floor under the edge of the bed for 40 years. Then one night while some punks were breaking in he had to use it and it worked just fine.

The gsmith at our local gun shop said any self loader is prone to not fully eject the shell if it is not held properly.

I keep a loaded Tamale next to my easy chair. I have a loaded Taco in the closet, and a super-loaded burrito in places unheard of.
