For every iPhone 4 purchased prior to September 30, 2010.
Is a new, fixed, version coming out then? Interesting since iPhone events are always in June.. As an Apple fan (and shareholder) I'm disappointed that they didn't do more to resolve it now. "Here's free case" is a bandaid not a solution.

Apple's Official response to the AntennaGate Storm of bad publicity:
- Less than 1 per 100 additional dropped phone 100 calls over iPhone 3Gs,
- attributed to only 20% of iPhone 4 owners having cases...
- Apple will give FREE iPhone 4 Cases for all iPhone 4 buyers who bought before September 30th...
- If you bought an Apple Bumper case, you will get a refund.
- Only 1.7% of all iPhone 4 purchasers have returned their iPhones...
- Return rate of iPhone 4 is less than 1/3 of the return rate for iPhone 3Gs.
- Apple is selling every iPhone 4 they can make
- Apple has sold well over 3,000,000 iPhone 4s since release date

I laughed every time I heard people speculating about “iPhone 4 recall?” — no way was Apple going to recall the phones; issuing free “bumper” cases was the most obvious solution.
Of course, I imagine that 3rd party case vendors aren’t going to be too happy about competing against “free”...

"Here's free case" is a bandaid not a solution. Read the press conference... it's not a problem. It's an overblown anti-iPhone campaign about a "perception" issue... and Apple has taken steps to correct the issue.

Q: Why is San Fran AT&T reception so poor? Jobs: In Texas, it's 3 weeks to get a cell tower approved, but in San Fran it could take up to 3 years because everyone wants better coverage, but nobody wants a cell tower in their backyard. Quote of the day.

If it’s not a problem why give away a free case? Just tell the users to stuff it, like Jobs initially did.

All in all, this issue reaffirms my rule:
“NEVER buy new tech. Wait until it’s been out for a while.”

Because the biggest problem is one of perception. They are trying to be seen as doing something about it.

It is if you live your life in the Apple Reality Distortion Field.
Apple fanboys would have settled for an apology from their Steve Jobs God-man.

It is ok. I wouldn’t recommend it for most. You have to buy the phone online from a third party and then you need to upgrade the firmware to a third party for the best result but that is what I like. I like being able to customize and modify and run what I will on my phone.

Happens with many phones: BlackkBerry Bold 9700, hold it in a normal way, 5 bars go down to 1 bar.
I tried holding my 9700 every way possible and couldn't get the bars to drop from 5.

I tried holding my 9700 every way possible and couldn't get the bars to drop from 5. They are referring to this occurring in similar circumstances (I.e., weak signal strength) to where the iPhone exhibited the loss of bars.
