TexasCowboy 5th Annual Memorial Shoot
03-01-10 | TheMom

Posted on 03/01/2010 5:53:29 AM PST by TheMom

It is time again to start making plans to attend the Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot. Come join us to celebrate the memory this fine Texas gentlemen.

Photobucket

The 5th Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot will be held June 12, 2010, starting at 10:00 a.m. Our range choice this year is Dietz Gun Range, 421 Range Road, New Braunfels. The cost per person will be $10.00 The Dietz Range is where TexasCowboy hosted one of his shoots in 2003.

This year the after party for the shoot will be held at the range. They have a large canopy with picnic benches underneath for us to hang out. The range does not have any items to cook food with, so we are asking that those who are able, to bring along a cooker. Everyone else please bring a side dish or appetizer. Adult beverages are allowed under the canopy (this does not need to be said but I am going to say in anyway – they are not to be opened until all weapons have been cased).

cpdiii has agreed to be our host this year. He will bring, and cook, steaks and shrimp Creole for everyone. I am really looking forward to eating the Creole!

At this time no plans have been made for the Friday evening dinner or Saturday morning breakfast get together. Allegra & I have volunteered to make the sacrifice of a road trip to check out places to eat. One line of thought for dinner is to eat at a German restaurant.

Stay tuned for more info . . .

The zombies won’t stand a chance.

Historically, zombies have stayed away from these events. They may be dead, but they aren't stupid.

We have had problems the dreaded El Clayda and the fruit hordes. That was before my time though, and while El Roy was still among us... not that he isn't now, but then it was "in the flesh".

El Clayda formation on the attack.

TheMom fighting them off.

AntiVenom and TC pausing after the battle.

I sure hope so. The last time I had to work, but this year I think I can arrange things to be open that weekend.

Ooo, New Braunsfels, I could actually make this one! The parental units are just up the way in Spring Branch.

I always have the Redhawk out when I get to go somewhere.

The M1A is history. I blew it up last weekend.

What did you do, take shooting lessons from Eaker?

Got pictures?

It did not have the visual appeal as Eaker's blow-up, being it had a synthetic stock and the magazine out.

Went to shoot some hogs. Pulled the trigger and *click*. Chamber another round and hit two pigs. Follow up shot on another piggy and *click*. Chambered another round and hit that pig. One more target and *click*. Chamber another round and did a bad hit on a little pig.

*Went back to the cabin and ran dry patches through the barrel. Cleaned the chamber, throat, ramp, seating surfaces and then the bolt.

Pulled the bullet from a round that did not fire (dented primer) and cycled it through the chamber a few times to check feed.

With safety still on and gun pointing about 50 degrees to the cabin floor, inserted a fresh round, released the bolt and BOOM...indoors.

Bet that was LOUD.

Could you tell from the wreckage what the problem was?

Sounds at first like a hammer (spring?) or firing pin problem. I guess if the pin was "sticky" and after all the cleaning stuck "out" rather than just being stiff or sticky, then you'd get the boom when you dropped the bolt.

I guess sausage must be on the menu at your place? Maybe BBQ?

I have no idea of the reason for the failure.

Note that just prior I had used a primed, empty case with different results (favorable).

The pigs were left for the yotes. I was by myself; packed up and drove home.

Hi there — it was a pleasant surprise to see you too. In a big city like Houston, I don’t expect to see anyone that I know beyond the bounds of where I know them from. For a second there, my wife was wondering, “who’s that gal he’s hugging on”? I’m real lucky she isn’t one of those suspicious kind of women. That’s why I have to behave myself wherever I go - I never know WHO I am going to bump into! I’ll “aim” to attend the shoot this year.
