TexasCowboy 5th Annual Memorial Shoot
03-01-10 | TheMom

It is time again to start making plans to attend the Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot. Come join us to celebrate the memory this fine Texas gentlemen.

Photobucket

The 5th Annual TexasCowboy Memorial Shoot will be held June 12, 2010, starting at 10:00 a.m. Our range choice this year is Dietz Gun Range, 421 Range Road, New Braunfels. The cost per person will be $10.00 The Dietz Range is where TexasCowboy hosted one of his shoots in 2003.

This year the after party for the shoot will be held at the range. They have a large canopy with picnic benches underneath for us to hang out. The range does not have any items to cook food with, so we are asking that those who are able, to bring along a cooker. Everyone else please bring a side dish or appetizer. Adult beverages are allowed under the canopy (this does not need to be said but I am going to say in anyway – they are not to be opened until all weapons have been cased).

cpdiii has agreed to be our host this year. He will bring, and cook, steaks and shrimp Creole for everyone. I am really looking forward to eating the Creole!

At this time no plans have been made for the Friday evening dinner or Saturday morning breakfast get together. Allegra & I have volunteered to make the sacrifice of a road trip to check out places to eat. One line of thought for dinner is to eat at a German restaurant.

Stay tuned for more info . . .

I’m familiar with ‘em, just not my thing where shotguns are concerned.

Do have a fond spot in my heart for slam fire pumpguns. :)

I think commie guns have bad karma... I mean who knows where that Tokarev’s been when you find neck hairs on the muzzle. ;)

The Winter War... not the Red Army’s most glorious moment.

Indeed, that’s one of the great things about guns, they are affordable history you can hold.

It's also that the history is so varied, so many weird ideas, dead ends, experiments etc...

My family had a branch that lived in Gettysburg during the battle and picked up a bunch of stuff afterwards. One was a strange cartridge that looked like an ice cream cone.

As a kid that memorized the entire Shooters Bible of 1973, it fascinated me. It was only a few months ago that I found out that it was for a Burnside carbine, and that a local shop had two (TWO!) of the things on the antique shelf. Took almost 40 years to find out, but it was sure fun to finally know.

I received the following message from hocndoc this morning:

will have scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, juice and coffee for FReepers who want to come to our house on Sunday morning, about 9 am.

Please let me know if you will attend the "after the shoot" breakfast so that I can (1)give hocndoc a head count, and (2)give you directions.

I am riding with Lauren, so if she’s there, I am, too.

I know we won’t be heading back to Dallas till Sunday sometime, I believe.

Sounds GREAT!

Everyone who’s going south after the Republican Convention just might stay over in New Braunfels on Saturday night and join us for breakfast on Sunday. The Guadalupe river was gorgeous today and we’ll pull the canoe out for anyone who wants a quick trip.

This is kinda embarrasing...But then again, I have no real pride to get in the way I suppose...

Do we know if anyone is bringing a “laser” bore-sighter Saturday??? I have a .308 Remington 700, that used to nail nails at 300 yards with no problem...I got it back from a gunsmith who tweeked the bolt tolerances, adn in doing so he screwed the pooch on the “zero” by taking off the scope and just slapping it back on without at least bore-sighting the dirn thing...

I guess I could run it by another guy to do this real quick, but I am pressed for time before this weekend, and I really wanted to shoot (and let others take a crack at it) it this weekend...

I figure it might be kinda fun to get it zeroed again, and if it was bore-sighted I could do it with less effort and rounds, and get to some fun shooting with it a bit quicker...

Anyway, just thought I would chime in, and test the waters...
