LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas toddler is in the hospital Tuesday night after four pit bull puppies attacked her. The mother of that little girl could face a charge of Endangering a Child for leaving the three-year-old alone with the dogs.
The attack happened at a home in the 1200 block of Fairway Drive in Longview. The girl is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"They found from their investigation that the child had been bitten several times over different parts of her body from her head to her toes," said Kevin Brownlee, with the Longview Police Department.
"It's a mother not watching her daughter [situation]," said Jennifer Howard, the dogs' owner. "That's the whole thing about it."
Howard lives at the home where the puppies were kept in a fence in the back yard.
"Animal Control found a drop of blood by the fence," said Howard.
Howard says she was in the house when the puppies attacked.
"Next thing I know, that's when the woman came in caring her daughter and she had marks all over her face and...I was concerned because the mark over her eye was already swelling," said Howard.
"The mother wasn't properly supervising the child when she went into the back yard," explained Brownlee. "I mean, there were four dogs there and some level of supervision should have conducted at that time."
Police say the girl suffered severe injuries to her head and face. A ball of the girl's hair and her little shoe still lays on the ground, where the puppies attacked her.
"I told police, 'That girl must have been provoking the dogs to have been bit so many times,'" said Howard. "The puppies were not vicious dogs at all. You know, I've got three older boys plus her (referring to her 13 month old baby) and they've never attacked her."
"At the end of the day, sometimes dogs can be unpredictable," said Brownlee.
All four pit bull puppies are in quarantine for 10 days. Police say because the pit bull owners had the dogs in a fence, they will not face any charges.

The dog is prettier.
I don’t care what kind of dogs they are...you do not leave a child alone with them...or leave the child alone period for that matter.
Doesn’t look like a “pit bull” pup to me ,, newspaper writers like to throw that label at most anything with 4 legs.
Maybe they thought they were playing with the girl. Prayers for the child.

Amazing, a mother blaming her own 3-yr daughter for causing the attack. And defending the puppies! I'm speechless!!!
Me either. That puppy appears to have quite a narrow snout. Much of the problem with pit bulls isn’t their disposition, but their extraordinary jaw strength which is derived from it’s broad and relatively short configuration.
“After her puppies were born, they were so mean that they largely had to be isolated. “If I let him out right now,” Markwell said, pointing to one of the young toughs who was leaping and snarling behind a glass door, “he’d try to kill you. No doubt about it.”
Markwell has seen litters of puppies that started trying to kill each other at 7 weeks...”

Actually, the dog is kind of cute. Pit Bull puppies sometimes look like full grown Boston Terriers. Very young Pit Bull puppies, that is.
The mother should be put down.
This story is ridiculously exaggerated! That baby doesn’t appear to have any bites on her, only dirt, first of all. Secondly, those puppies were most likely PLAYING like puppies do! How dare they say this child was attacked when puppies tend to bite and scratch at that age, and their teeth are like little needles. Shame on the media for providing yet another great example of their inability to present the truth, and shame on the mother of this dirty child for being a moron.
These are little puppies. Puppies like to bite when they play. The child in the video doesn’t even appear to have a scratch on her, but is extremely filthy. I would bet a large amount of money the pups were playing, not attacking as this idiot reporter claims. Why is it people believe this story? Common sense is apparently not as common as you would think. This woman left a baby outside with a litter of puppies. She’s lucky the mother dog didn’t try to do something to defend her litter. Irresponsibility has been the root of every single one of these cases, not “pit bulls”. The picture shown above looks more like a chihuahua than a pit bull, but I digress.

They’re freaking PUPPIES! For God’s sake people, little playful, active puppies with no bite inhibition because they’re too young to know better! If this girl had been in a pack of lab puppies of the same age the same thing would have happened. Puppies play, eat, poop and sleep. They do not attack, and the video clearly shows very very young, happy puppies and a filthy child who miraculously seems to have not a scratch on her!!!
