The real mystery surrounding Dan Brown's sequel to The Da Vinci Code doesn't involve Catholic cults or revisionist Christianity. It's whether the return of Robert Langdon can help publishers drag themselves up from one of the lower circles of economic hell.
The Lost Symbol goes on sale Tuesday, six years after The Da Vinci Code sold 80 million copies in 51 languages, and booksellers and publishers are hoping its appearance will inspire Brown's fans to pick up a little something extra. Maybe the new Edward Kennedy memoir True Compass, which goes on sale Monday.
``We're hoping the book drives people into the store, and once they're there they can buy a Dan Brown and maybe discover other good writers,'' says Mitchell Kaplan, owner of Books & Books. ``It's an exciting week for us.''
Here's what we know: The new book, which follows the further adventures of the Harvard symbologist, takes place over a 12-hour period in Washington, D.C. (maybe). Freemasons may be involved. The book, No. 1 on the Amazon bestseller list for the past several months, ``remains so deeply under wraps that we've agreed to keep our stockpile under 24-hour guard in its own chain-link enclosure, with two locks requiring two separate people for entry,'' Amazon CEO Jeffrey Bezos wrote on the website last week.

Well, I read both “Angels & Deamons” and “The DaVinci Code”. Here is the plot of the new book: Langdon will end up temed with a female. There will be a big secret somehow involving the Catholic Church and how it’s trying to avoid a scandal that will shake it to it’s very foundations. There will be someone who seems to be a helpful friend who is reallt the “bad guy”. And there will be a person who appears to be a bad guy who is actually a friend. At the end, there will be some “big reveal” that everyone saw coming anyway. And then you will wonder why you just wasted precious time.
Experience shows,
Projects kept under tight wraps,
Are usually dogs.
That's how I felt after watching the movie "Angels & Demons".
Maybe the new Edward Kennedy memoir True Compass, which goes on sale Monday.Oh, he could remember stuff? That's unusual after a lifelong drunken spree.
