My thoughts on Ben: He's an ass, like I've said before. He's arrogant, rude, a bully, and seems to be incapable of thinking of the long-term consequences of his actions. His racism is just one of his many negative character traits. Do not worry about him "getting away with it" - he'll get what's coming to him soon enough.
Because you're new here, you may not know what we're really like, so I'll explain it right here. Mainstream conservatives are not racist. We condemn the extremists on our own side - something that mainstream liberals completely fail to do. And our little group of Survivor fans most certainly is not racist. It's unfortunate that I even have to say these things, but Obama and his ilk are throwing the race card around here, there, and everywhere. Obama has set race relations back at least 50 years.
If your motives are clean, then let me be the first to welcome you to Free Republic. If, however, you've come here to race-bait, know that you will fail utterly.
Oh, and I'm generously going to assume that you were just as disgusted with Mike's racism as you are with Ben's, even though you didn't bother mentioning it. (Mike, in Episode 1, said that he was surprised at Jaison's swimming ability because he didn't think blacks could swim well). I'm sure that Mike's status as a self-proclaimed liberal had absolutely nothing to do with your not mentioning his racism. Absolutely nothing.

Since this is an ongoing thread that started weeks ago that means you had to search for it. That should mean you are interested in Survivor.

And remember - the editors cut 3 days of tapes down to 45 minutes for us viewers. We see what they want us to see.
But with that said Ben is still a jerk.
Yasmin walked into their camp and “Yak, Yak, Yak, Yak, Yak, Yak” “And Ben, I want to talk to you.”
If it wasn’t “Russell the bad guy show” we might have seen more of Yasmin in her camp and gotten a better idea of why she was picked to go to the other camp.
I have it DVR’d and will watch it tonight. I’ll have to reserve comment until then.

They asked what he was doing and he told them and snagged it out of the treet while they were all standing there.
He calls his tribe dumb and he may just be right.

Oilman Russell finds the idol. Sheesh. He's on a roll.
Betsy really must have rubbed people the wrong way, I noticed it was a unanimous vote.
I missed Russell's reasoning as to why he let Jaison in on the " I've got the idol" secret.
If the previews are to be believed, it may backfire on him.
I really wish we could have seen why Russell S. picked Yasmin. From the way he talked (calling her his “homegirl”), it could have been that he thought she would be the most loyal to him, and the best spy to report on what was going on at Foa Foa. But it also could have been that he knew about her mouth and her attitude, and decided that she would be the safest choice to send over because she would be the least likely to make allies on the opposing tribe.
Yasmin’s yakking = DUMB DUMB DUMB.
Russell said that by telling Jaison such an important secret, he was hoping that Jaison would trust him.
It seems just a lit-tle suspicious that the biggest villain of the season finds the immunity idol, without any clues. He’ll be more protected now, and likely to bring in the ratings for SeeBS for a longer amount of time. Makes you wonder...
I’m not saying the producers told him where to find the idol, but I do think it’s possible that they encouraged him, and only him, to actually start looking for an idol.
My hostility towards Mike was based on the fact that he said he “couldn’t stand Republicans” in his bio. He’s obviously not the only liberal on the show, but he’s the only one who went so far as to make that kind of comment. I hope he makes a full recovery and I also hope that he’s had some time to think and has become a little less hostile to people with non-Obama-worshipping political views.
As for the Betsy vote, I don’t think she rubbed people the wrong way, I just think her tribemates thought she was the weakest player and would be a liability at challenges. Well, some of them, anyway. From what we saw some of them seemed willing to vote out Ben, but none had the courage to go through with it. I hate these unanimous votes (unless there’s a really good reason for it). These Foa Foas aren’t thinking independently. They’re letting Russell H. and Ben lead them by the nose.

Calm down. Everybody is just hyper sensitive because Obama has made playing the race card cool. You know, like his typical white woman grandmother...as he would say.

I don’t know about that. Once again we are at the mercy of the editors. We don’t know how much time he spent looking for it. There was a couple of shots of him looking around the tree mail site and then in the woods.
When he spotted the hole and stuck his head in someone asked him what he was doing and he told the truth - “Looking for the HII.”
The big question is it “anybody’s” idol or just the other teams. We didn’t see what was written and Yasmin sure has the clue to where it “was”.
She didn’t seem to want to put any thought into where it might be.
I wanted Betsy to win. I would have kept her around much longer than the 20-something girls. Police officers have to have some physical conditioning to do their job, but those youngsters are starting out all skin and bones to begin with. I just dislike the bias toward the young rather than the wisdom and experience of the older players. In this case, the young people on that tribe haven’t a clue that they are being played by Russ.
I just can’t sympathize with race-obsessed people. I mean, complaining only about Ben’s racism, while ignoring his many other flaws, seems kind of ridiculous. Ben isn’t just being a jerk to the black people. He’s being a jerk to everybody.
Russell plays the hidden immunity idol.
Jeff Probst says, “Unfortunately for you, this is Galu’s idol and therefore cannot be used by you.” Then he throws the idol into the fire.
Russell has the most votes against him and is voted out.
Oh please, oh please, let that happen.
You are right. It makes you wonder why a person becomes a FReeper just to post a comment about an asshat on Survivor. Very curious.
But what about Russell? Is this guy for real? I mean, it’s almost like Jeff gave him a script to follow so as to make it more interesting this season. He’s more like a cartoon bad guy than a Survivor contestant. Regardless, he certainly adds a different element to the game. I do find it gratifying that most of the women he has tagged as stupid figured him out almost instantly.
Hey alphabet! Welcome to our little Survior thread. Ben is an ass on so many levels but so are a few other players. I find all racist comments deplorable, even when they come from the same race.
Ben is not a nice person, period. I actually hope he takes the walk of shame long before RussHell. Even though he's an ass, he didn't deserve what Yasmin was tossing at him. Hey Yasmin ... this is a game and that crap happens! Now, if the members of his own tribe had tore him a new one because of his late night hammering, I would have applauded them.

It didn't take long for our first medivac. I wish Mike well. I wonder if he's checked out O's healthcare plan yet.
I think it was a set up that the snorkel given to the group had a detachable mouthpiece. The producers had to look high and low to find such a poor quality setup. I've had my OW certification since 1971, now my family has 5 divers and you couldn't buy that cheap "J" type anywhere I can think of. Consider the liability issues alone on water product that fails that easily. Survivor producers gave it to them hoping and praying that the lost piece would cause somebody major grief. At least IMHO.
Now that I think about it, they probably muck up everything they give just to add to the game "fun". Remember the lost spear tip?
I can guarantee that I am not a race-baiter. I just needed to find a place to vent after what I saw last night. In all of the years that I have been a fan of Survivor, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Yasmin had every right to call Ben out for tackling her. But it just seemed as though he was adding insult and injury to injury by all of the racist and hateful comments he was making to her. I might be reading into this too much too, but did you also not see the veiled threat on a cop as he was writing down Betsy’s name at Tribal Council? I certainly agree with the one poster who talked about the editing of the show, but I hope Yasmin got to defend herself off-camera when she was observing Tribal Council. In my opinion, Ben made Russell look like an angel last night.
