I heard a disturbing thing today that irked me. I would like your opinion on what should be the next move.
My daughter in the 6th grade came home on the 20th and described an assignment she was given. The assignment was to write about how January 20th 2008 was the greatest day in American history. She questioned why that day was the greatest in our history and the teacher responded by saying, "If you don't think today is the greatest day then you must be racist.".
WTF. The left can not just be content with the day being the inauguration. They have to treat it like they are still victims. I respect Obama as our president, I don't think he is the right person for the job. But the people elected him and I can deal with that for right now. Does the fact that I don't agree with the man make me a racist? Every time that someone questions his policy they are going to go for the race card right from the get go. They must have decks and decks of gold plated race cards. They seem to be the only dealers of the race card and the coveted trump card, "Tolerance". Oh the tolerance card. If you don't agree they hold the tolerance card then you must be intolerant.
I am a teacher and this is beyond the pale. This teacher needs to be reprimanded.
I agree, that teacher needs to be held accountable for slandering that little girl
I can only say that I welcome the day when some ignorant “educator” says something like this to my child.
If it happened to my daughter, I would be at the Superintendents office with my lawyer demanding that teacher be fired immediately for inappropriate behavior.
Only a racist will pull the racist card to try to appear to be the victim.
My niece is in high school in Georgia. The assignment yesterday, was to write a letter to Obama (but you could only say positive things, nothing negative.) The thought police are out en masse, in the public school system.
I would have your daughter say that it was one of many great days in history because: (1) Many people were inspired by a glass ceiling being broken (even though the candidate to achieve this pinnacle represented everything against what MLK stood for), (2) We live in a country where there is such a peaceful transition of power (and President Bush exemplified that by being gracious and classy to a Kenyan Marxist baby killer who hates America and the Constitution) and (3) yesterday’s DJIA might be the highest it will be for another 4 years.
I agree completely - this sort of racist political indoctrination MUST NOT BE TOLERATED.
My God, I live in the bluest of blue states (MA), with three kids in the public school system of our town, and it's not that bad. The schools did waste an hour and half of the day watching the coronation, but two of our kids refused to watch it and they were not reprimanded or called racist. There also was no assignment for mandatory written worship.
I’d pull the kid from the school if at all possible.
Let the teacher know Obama has nothing in common with blacks Americans as he is not decedent of slaves. Also tell her it’s okay to not like a President because of his ideology. If she does anything but stare blankly at you I’d be surprised.
“Today, January 20th, 2009, was the greatest day in American history because with the Obamanation, everything is going to go downhill from here.”
I would immediately call a meeting with the principal, teacher, and anyone else in the vast educational staff hierarchy and voice your displeasure with this “teacher”. Inform the head of the school district too. The school board may be interested too. Don’t stop until you’re satisfied. I’ve been to my kid’s high school so often I’ve lost track but I always get results.
“It is the greatest day in American history because we found out that you don’t even have to be a native-born American in order to be President. How inclusive is that!”
BTTT
Tell your child the next time some “educator” says something like that to her, she is to say “EXCUSE ME???!!!” loudly and glare at the teacher in horror and disbelief. She can also inform the teacher that this comment is going somewhere.
I guarantee the teacher will be peeing in her pants.
I’ve seen a sixth grader turn a teacher into a sweating stammering mess with this tactic.
It’s days like yesterday that I almost wish our kids were not home schooled, cause I’d love to spend the night helping them with their indoctrination homework.
Agree - I would not let it rest until at least a public apology was made. Heck, I think I’d go after this person’s job.
