Bush Says Creation 'Not Incompatible' With Evolution

President George W. Bush said his belief that God created the world is not incompatible with the scientific theory of evolution. In an interview with ABC's "Nightline" on Monday, the president also said he probably is not a literalist when reading the Bible although an individual can learn a great deal from it, including the New Testament teaching that God sent his only son. Asked about creation and evolution, Bush said: "I think you can have both. I think evolution can -- you're getting me way out of my lane here. I'm just a simple president. But it's, I think that God created the earth, created the world; I think the creation of the world is so mysterious it requires something as large as an almighty and I don't think it's incompatible with the scientific proof that there is evolution."

“If President Bush were to desire to join our local assembly, and he gave the word of God, and the God of the word, only the amount of respect as he did in that interview”

I see what you are doing as similar to a psychologist giving an opinion of someone they have never meet, nor spoken to. Their opinion is based on bias and stereotypes and does not give an accurate representation of the person. The knowledge I have of Pres. Bush is based on his public life (through a media prism) but I see his morality/spirituality as superior to most others in Washington ... do you have knowledge of him beyond his public persona? President Bush, in the end, will be judged by one who knows all about him (as will we all).

They stated the mainstream Christian position, but because people get all buggy when religion is involved, it is “news” because the enemedia think to use it to drive a wedge between most Christians and “literalist” Christians, and many seem more than happy to oblige them by declaring anyone who takes the same position as GWB Palin and the Pope as “not a Christian”.

“based on his public life (through a media prism) but I see his morality/spirituality as superior to most others in Washington . . .”

Such is appreciated by man, including by myself. But it is not an indication of a Biblically-based faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 3:19-30), regeneration by God’s Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5), nor a basis for granting membership in a Bible-believing Church.

I like Mr. Bush, believe that history will vindicate much of his policy (not all) and rebuke his opposition in much. But none of that is a ticket to God’s Glory.

Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. To join a Bible-believing church, he would have to have Biblical testimony with regard to the authority of the word of God (the Bible), identity of Christ, the reason for the Cross and shed Blood of Christ, the Resurrection of Christ, and a few other particulars.

Since Mr. Bush stated that he doesn’t hold to the literalness of the Bible, that itself would bar him from joining a Bible-believing church. That just makes sense. But then, he probably wouldn’t want to join one anyway.

On our part, since we believe in “individual soul liberty,” we allow Mr. Bush the right and prerogative to believe or not believe anything according to the dictates of his own conscience. He would never have to fear any threat of persecution from Bible-believing people.

But it is pretty obvious that one should believe fundamentally the same as any church one would want to join. That is, unless one joins churches for political advantage and doesn’t really care what the content of the teaching is.

But a Bible-believing church must be concerned about the profession of faith of its members, and doesn’t allow membership for political advantage, if it detects it.

"You know. Probably not. ... No, I'm not a literalist, but I think you can learn a lot from it, but I do think that the New Testament for example is ... has got ... You know, the important lesson is 'God sent a son,"' Bush said.

Wow, Bush will get excoriated here. And he believes in evolution.

Could you say what those accounts are? I’m curious because I’ve heard similar things from other people about accounts of his conversion and his answers seemed slightly humanist last night.
