Unusaul Swarm of quakes off of the Oregon Coast in the last 72 hours.

Yes, Florence is in this range (”central” coastline) but these particular earthquakes are far enough out at sea they would not have been felt. However, the real issue is if an earthquake is large enough and shallow enough to start a tsunami, at that point towns all along the southern or central Oregon coast could be in danger if they are in the “tsunami zone”. Even if they don’t feel the quake itself, the tidal wave could follow. Florence is a coastal town and parts of it are definitely in the zone, but your friends may not be. The County has maps that will show the boundaries or you can guess by how close to sea level they are.
I could suggest how this man correct his “problem”; Drag a dead elk into the living room and hang it from the ceiling. Cut it up and package it for the freezer, then invite all his buddies over for a Rib Barbecue, while watching elk hunts on the Outdoor Channel.

Scientists study earthquake ‘swarm’ off Oregon Coast

PORTLAND - A magnitude-five earthquake off the Oregon Coast was the latest in a series rattling the Northwest that geologists were describing as a significant swarm of quakes.
Geologists said the swarm started just about two weeks ago and have all been relatively shallow, happening along the plate boundary. They added that the swarm was not related to the Subduction Zone and there have been no reports of damage or injuries.
The most recent earthquake was centered hundreds of miles off the coast of Newport around midnight Wednesday.
The Oregon State Geologist told KGW that her office is watching the swarm closely, yet the quakes were not necessarily indicative of any larger things to come.
“They’re only occurring six miles deep.
That means they’re still along the plate here and they’re not occurring up here on this plate. That Subduction Zone plate that’s the one we worry about,” State Geologist Vicki McConnell said.
She added that Subduction Zone quakes have much larger magnitudes, can general tsunamis and can cause extensive damage.
Even though they dont feel there is a threat, scientist said they would continue to monitor the earthquake swarm.

This swarm of earthquakes off the Oregon coastline should be monitored since it could produce something far more powerful.
