Paris Hilton Says She Won't Appeal Jail Sentence

LOS ANGELES — A day after a tearful Paris Hilton was ordered back to jail, the hotel heiress said she won't appeal her 45-day jail sentence and is "learning and growing" from her time behind bars.

Her change of heart came Saturday when she announced in a statement released by one of her attorneys that she won't fight her sentence after a brief stint under house arrest at her Hollywood Hills home.

"Today, I told my attorneys not to appeal the judge's decision," Hilton said in the statement. "While I greatly appreciate the sheriff's concern for my health and welfare, I intend to serve my time at L.A. County Jail."

The celebutante was at a maximum-security detention center, where she was believed to be undergoing medical and psychiatric evaluations to determine the best jail to keep her in as she serves the rest of her sentence.

Hilton, in tears and screaming for her mother, was taken to the downtown Twin Towers facility Friday afternoon after Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ordered her back to jail.

"Being in jail is by far the hardest thing I have ever done," she said in the statement. "During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to think and I believe that I am learning and growing from this experience."

Hilton added she was "shocked" by the attention her case has received and suggested the public and media focus on "more important things like the men and women serving our country in Iraq."

Can’t we get off the subject of Paris and get back to Britney Spears and Nicole Smith?

Note the shift in blame from herself to the sheriff who took responsibility for her “health and welfare”. Not her fault that she had a meltdown. Blame the sheriff.

What's to appeal? She's going to serve no more than the 23 days, and will even get 'credit' for those partial days when she checked in late last Sunday, and out early on Thursday. She even gets credit for the 'home confinement' days.

She gets her shrink in for two hours a day, so it's not solitary any more. I mean, what is a shrink really, besides a rented friend? I'd bet that all of the other inmates of the LA jail system would like to spend their incarceration stoned out of their minds on tranquilizers.

That whole "think of the troops in Iraq, not me," was her "don't cry for me Argentina" moment.

I thought the sentence had been reduced to 23 days?

I don’t think that she is even aware of this “statement”. It was probably composed by her lawyers or handlers.

Britney Spears and Nicole Smith are so yesterday.

Lets get back to Lindsay Lohan. Now that's where it's at.

I have to give Paris credit for publishing a very sensible press release. I hope this jail time does give her a chance to reflect on what is really valuable in life and hopefully lead to a change in her priorities. It must be tough for her to see how fast all of her supposed friends in Hollywood turned on her. Anyway, hopefully she will have time to reflect on her life, see her need for God, and decide to do something meaningfull with her life. I definately wish her the best.

God can turn anyone. Hopefully this is Paris’s turning to God and she will live a meaningful life.

She didn’t author a single word of that statement. Her lawyer wrote it and said sign this, it’s why you pay me.

I’ll be quoting that “rented friend” line, thanks, that’s a great one. Hey, here’s hoping she really does get her act together out of this.

I'd talk to you further about this, but our hour is up.

Does that pretty much define the "rented" part of "rented friend"?!
