Dell will be partnering with Novell in April to provide server customers with a single console to manage hardware and software on Linux servers.

FYI, Dell servers used to ship with Netware as an option - I haven't ordered a server with an os since we switched over to freebsd and linux, but I think think that option is still available. The Dell/Novell relationship goes way back, as does the compaq (now hp) and Novell relationship.

Preoccupation with something you hate so dearly must make for a miserable existence. If Linux bothers you both so much, might I suggest avoiding these threads. It's really not that hard. Perhaps we could put a warning label at the top of the page. Something akin to the ones about not using your hair dryer in the shower.

Actually I get quite a kick spinning the propeller on these boy's heads, and watching them try to deny Richard Stallman is a whacko leftist. They get twisted into more circles than Mr. Gumby, but they sure do try.

Thanks for the info, N3WBI3.  I didn't realize that Suse was making such great strides.  It's a pretty impressive feat considering how popular Red Hat is and the mind-boggling amount of different Linux versions there are.

By the time I got into IT novell was already in trouble and I went pretty much straight into *nix..

For all of the hundreds of distros out there there are only a few that matter (like many kinds of applications)..

In my mind you have RedHat, Novell (Suse), Ubuntuu are the big three that you might expect to see widely used as either a server or client OS. Some of the other popular ones are Slax, Mephis, Debian, Fedora, and a few others are niche distros that many people use because they want to / can customize..

This is just one mans opinion and there is always someone who will pipe up with how great $DISTRO is, but RedHat and Novell have the server presence and Ubuntuu has the desktop presence which covers a huge segment of the market..
