My question was why Adama didn't go to Roslin and have Cain sacked? Or does the President not have such power over the military in the Colonies?
I recieved the impression that this all happened very quickly, and that Cain gave the new government little thought, thus the disparaging "The secretary of education?" remark to Adama. She seemed to push her rank from the get go, and like I said, this seemed like a short time frame. Therefore Roslin firing Cain would have been an empty gesture.

That's my guess - is that Cain would not have recognized the President's authority - not to mention the possibility that Adama didn't want to establish a precedent that the President can make military command decisions.
