EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -(AP) Eli Manning's best game as a pro wasn't enough to stop Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Roethlisberger threw for a career best 316 yards and threw four straight passes to set up Jerome Bettis' game winning 1 yard run with 4:57 left in the game, leading the Steelers to a 33-30 come from behind win over the New York Giants.

He extends his NFL record for consecutive wins by a rookie to 12!
He made some bad passes that led to 2 interceptions, but the Steelers defense made the big plays, holding Giants running back Tiki Barber to 76 rushing yards.
The Giants hopes ended when Willie Williams intercepted Manning, and the Steelers ran out the clock.
Big Ben was 18 for 28 with 1 TD and 2 interceptions.
Bettis rushed for 140 yards, including 3 straight runs to score the game winning TD.
An outstanding performance by the entire team, considering their best receiver and best running back are both sidelined. They should be healthy and back playing just in time for the playoffs.

This guy is amazing. Even when the Giants pulled out to an early lead, there was no doubt that Pittsburgh would pull it out---with Roethlisberger at the helm.

Squeelers are "squeaking by" past these second tier teams - not something I'd think a Pitt fan would take comfort in.
And, oh, as usual, they had help from all their friends...in the striped shirts that is. Blah.
Only 2 more regular season games. The Steelers will probably need both for home field advantage throughout the play offs. I do not want them having to play the Pats in Mass. I know they beat them once this year but that was in Pitt and Dillon was out for the Patriots.
Another thing -- there were plenty of times when Ben SHOULD have run but was instructed not to before the game. His leg was pretty bad today. And, Ward's hip was hurt pretty bad the whole game, but he gutted it out.
This is one cool-*ss team!

Anyway, Roethlisberger is the real deal. I'm thinking that the Steelers have what it takes to get past the Patriots in the playoffs. But they better hope that they don't play the AFC Championship Game in Pittsburgh. They've lost the last two they've played there.

You're not going to believe this, but some MORON host on ESPN radio criticized Ben R's numbers from today, how he's starting to slow down late in the season. He had over 11 yards per attempt and this idiot host (I repeat, host, not a caller) found something to criticize.
I'm not a Steelers fan or anything, but I was astonished by the statement.
Ward is very reliable, but I think Burress is Ben's favorite gut to throw to. with both of them to throw to, it will help Roethlisberger find a target more quickly. He gets into trouble when he gets flushed out of the pocket.

No, it's not comfortable watching my team struggle, or squeaking out a win. But it's better than watching them lose!
Ben is almost too perfect--smart, tall, strong armed, gutsy, cool, athletic. The way he throws the ball outside his recievers' shoulders, away from the defenders, is brilliant. He's three times the QB Eli Manning is. How could a rookie be this good?
The Steelers' starting Quarterback was out for that game. And I think their starting running back was out as well. So we're even! :)
I'd love to see BenR go undefeted through the Superbowl. It would warm this old Steeler fan's heart! Hard to believe he's got a hotter streak going than Bradshaw and the Steel Curtain ever had. I still don't think they match up to the 74 through 79 Steelers.

Kindof like NE was doing prior to the Pittsburgh game. They were just doing enough to be better than their opponents. Even if the score didn't reflect it, you could see it. ...Then they fell behind against a good team and couldn't recover. That was clearly a wake-up call. Since then, they've been stomping.
Maybe Pittsburgh needs a good loss to reawaken them.
Steelers will be exposed by the other Manning and the Colts if they ever meet in the playoffs...
