Hamas Goes Tet

Along with anybody civilized, I have been horrified by the video and photos coming out of Israel in the wake of the Hamas attacks. Hamas. an Iranian proxy, have gone all in trying to sow terror, showing no regard for noncombatants, be they elderly, children, women, Israeli or foreign.

They apparently have kidnapped and killed foreign tourists attending some goofy peace concert, dragging them back to Gaza and parading them naked through the streets. No animal does this; only human scum of the sort that belongs on death row.

Hamas, in my view, have adopted a Tet Offensive strategy.

Before you jump on me, let me say that no historical analogy is perfect, but this one seems pretty close. Hanoi, you will remember, convinced the Viet Cong (VC) into launching a frontal attack on US and ARVN forces across South Vietnam on a holiday, taking over cities such as the old imperial capital of Hue, terrorizing pro-Saigon officials, and, most important, getting lots of media attention, e.g., attacking the US Embassy in Saigon. If you read subsequent accounts by VC leaders they argued against this strategy noting that the VC would get annihilated, but they went ahead. Well, it all went per Hanoi's plan: the VC caught the US and ARVN forces off-guard, terrorized the populace, temporarily seized (with NVA help) Hue, attacked the Embassy, etc. The media reporting, of course, helped foment the belief that the VC were some sort of invincible force, blah, blah, and blah. Once the US and ARVN got their act together, the predictions of the VC leadership came true: the Viet Cong got annihilated, and never again was a significant military force. It was now Hanoi clearly in charge.

Hamas has launched, on a holiday, a major attack on Israel, including attacking military bases, catching the Israelis asleep at the switch.. They are getting their fifteen minutes in the media; they inevitably will get themselves killed by the Israeli counterattack. What will be left of Hamas will be purely an Iranian puppet, however, they will have reminded the world, as was done fifty years ago in another Yom Kippur War, that the Israeli intel and military are not invulnerable and all-seeing. Netanyahu might not survive the following political fall out in Israel.

I think there can be no doubt that Iran has been emboldened in promoting this massive attack by the weakness of the West, especially the USA under its current "leadership." The US, aside from resuming funding for "Palestine," seems interested in placating Iran, allowing the once starving regime to resume oil sales on the world market, returning frozen assets, and generally ignoring Iran's drive for a nuclear weapon capability. In addition, the chaos on the streets and borders of Europe and the US, have convinced the Mullahs that this is the time to strike.

Don't be surprised if we see similar terror on the streets of Europe and America.

Excellent history by a conservative former State Dept Foreign Service Officer.

I think that he used to post here, but in any case I want to introduce him to a new generation of FReepers.

I feel that some of the comments are excellent:

It's my hope that the exposure of the Rob Malley Iranian spy ring within the top echelons of the Obama and Biden administrations will lead to a reformed Iran policy (both sides of the aisle, with democrats trying to wipe the egg off their face and GOP being emboldened with realizing that there actually was a reason JCPOA and other efforts stank so badly.) It's just a hope, I know there's tremendous dysfunction, so it's not an expectation.

This might be Iran's last resort attack, knowing that their future largess from democrat administrations is going to be severely constrained. I'm not sure why Israel isn't launching strikes on Iran already.

Why do we expect Israel to do nothing as its enemies pile up weapons and soldiers on its border while chanting 'death to Israel'? What our solution? "Hey, we'll coordinate on Iron Dome... that way your infantile enemies can throw their tantrums by attacking you without causing damage."

What kind of policy is that? It's not.. it's insanity... basically "We're just going to wait until our gifts to Iran have gotten to the point where they can use our technology to defeat the shield."

China is *totally* part of this. Iran doesn't survive without China. Iran doesn't produce any significant electronics domestically. It's all patented US designs produced 'on the night shift' in China, and sent to Iran for assembly and shipment to Syria, HAMAS, and now Russia. Taking Iran out of this cycle would force China to either enter in open hostility or to take a 5-10 year hit as they stand up another puppet.

When I heard about the attack yesterday, I also thought it resembled the Tet Offensive.

Tet was a military disaster for the Viet Cong, but a great propaganda victory that eventually got us out of the war.

And this comment:

I was in the USAF as a subject mater expert on a system that was being installed in Israel. I had a 20 year old IDF handler anytime I was outside my hotel room. She was drop dead gorgeous and armed to the max.

Massad is better than any US 3-letter organization on intel. This attack was anticipated as they usually gear up for any anniversary of past attacks. The attacks do not pass the smell test. Something is off here.

Your thoughts?

Is some media person (like Water Cronkite) tells Israel that they have lost and should somehow go home, I don’t think Israel will listen the way the US did. I think the Palestinians can and should be wiped out. They asked for it.

The only problem with this analogy is that the Gaza strip is not South Vietnam. It is tiny and surrounded on all sides (including a possible sea blockade). It might be hard to control internally, but externally Israel can put a lid on it if it has the will.

A lot was made of Hezbollah’s ability to fend off Israel in 2006. Yet Hezbollah got its clock cleaned. And they have been relatively quiet for 17 years. I think Hammas has played its best hand and will now be routed in a major way.

This sort of action is very common for humans. The USA has done differently when it has been in a position of overwhelming power. Christian civilization has tended to be more careful of women and children when it is attacking up close.

Does it make much difference if we kill from a distance with bombs and incendiary attacks?

...did the drop-dead gorgeous 20-year old handler ever *enter* the hotel rooom?

Seriously, my thoughts are varied.

Why did the Bite-Me admins suddenly waive 26 laws and resume construction on the wall a few days ago.

Almost like they knew of the impending Gaza attack and wanted to forestall any obvious political fallout here.

...so did Israel know, warn us, and then let it happen?
Or did our Intelligence find out, and tell Israel and they Israel let it happen?
Or did did Israel find out, the Bite-Me Admin gave $75 million in last minute-funding to Hamas, and then build the wall?

All kinds of possibilities.

Oh yes, and on Sept. 14, Biden pardoned one of the 5 Iranians who was returned to Iran along with that $6 billion in the prisoner swap.

And, there was a high-level Iranian spy ring busted in the US.

Biden and/or ValJar and/or 0moeba would be the first I’d be suspicious of.
And the Biden admin is partying tonight.

Good article. Thanks for posting.

The one missing piece is the part the US media (e.g, Cronkite) played after the Tet offensive. I expect the same type of thing from the current leftscum media.

Difference is we have the Internet. Most people actually get their news online these days. So please everyone use every online forum you can access to spread the truth.

Free Republic is a great and dare I say essential resource, but let’s not put the entire burden on this site’s and especially Mr. Jim Robinson’s shoulders. Also other sites may reach people who are not active Freepers or lurkers.

Also if you can, please give to the Freepathon. Thank you. (In the interest of full disclosure, I simply can’t right now. Hope to fix that soon.)

Victor Davis Hanson
@VDHanson
Here we are 78 years after the end of the Holocaust and once agains thuggish killers dressed in black are pulling Jewish elderly, women, and children out of their homes and executing them, and then throwing their bodies into the street. But in 1945 we were fighting the SS murderers, now we are sending millions in subsidies to their modern Hamas killer squad counterparts. We the American people should demand not one more American cent to these Gestapo and SS killers.

I actually was thinking about the similarities to Tet . In Tet the Communists had the names of people they wanted killed in advance and killed them in the brief moments that they had before control was reacquired. I wonder if the same thing is happening in Israel or is most of the mayhem just random opportunities?

I haven’t been keeping up with the news. I gave the proverbial side eye to the headline about Biden starting the wall. It made no sense to me. Then Hamas goes crazy on the world stage. Must be some kind of connection to those two events.

Israel has relied too much on the US for it’s national Defense. They need to tell the US to sit down and be quiet, while they raze the Gaza strip to the ground and turn it to glass.

The NVA wanted the VC to attack because too many VC were either a different form of Communist, or some were even non- Communist.

After the Tet offensive, 90-95% of all VC were wiped out and the Vietnam War basically became a standard war between two sovereign nations. Also, the Communist Vietnamese were more in line with the Hanoi Bureaucrats.

One theory going around is the Mossad like our CIA, NSA and FBI when Trump was President, do not like the current administration so they played down the level of threat to make Bibi look bad. But were caught off guard by the ferocity of the attack.

If true they are bigger fools than our three letter agencies. Israel will not change leaders until this war is finished and then if the blame falls squarely on the Mossad Aman and Shabak the fall out will not hurt Bibi.

To be true would require the internal, international and military intelligence agencies to conspire to let Israeli citizens be killed to topple a government. You would have to believe that would happen without a single person of conscious stepping forward and warning the government. Very unlikely in my humble opinion.

Hamas proves that the Islamic Cult is pure evil, savages. As they have killed Americans, apparently have Americans hostage, we should declare war on them, hunt them down and kill them, plus address their supporters like the squad in the US. Time for a you are with us or you are the enemy.
