Elon just confirmed the U.S or Ukrainian Government requested him to play a significant role in a MAJOR ESCALATION in the Ukraine war.
CNN reported that Elon deactivated his Starlink satellites in response to a covert attack the Ukrainians were planning on the Russian naval fleet. They were WRONG!
Elon clarified the satellites were NOT active, and that he was pressured by the Government to activate them so that Ukraine can attack Russian ships in a contentious territory.
“There was an emergency request from government authorities to activate Starlink all the way to Sevastopol. The obvious intent being to sink most of the Russian fleet at anchor.”
@elonmusk refused to activate Starlink, avoiding “a major act of war and conflict escalation.”
So not only are Governments not deescalating the war, but they have also actively tried to drag a private company to play a role in ESCALATING.
This is NOT how peace will be reached!

Ukraine already sank by far the Black Sea Fleet’s most important ship. No significant escalation occurred.
An attack relying on Starlink would at best maybe sink a couple more lesser ships, perhaps damage a couple more.
It is Musk’s prerogative to stay on the sideline if he wishes. While I suspect Russia really would bankrupt itself trying to shoot up Starlink Satellites faster then Elon can launch them, Elon probably doesn’t want the headache.

We can actually walk and chew gum at the same time (i.e., we can do both). The problem is that our present government is corrupt to its very core; NOT that it can’t function as intended.
Your angst is misdirected. The present government of the US has misplaced priorities; and it has put party above country (standard fare for Democrats). So, rather than take out your anger on Ukraine, you should direct it towards the Biden administration and the Democrats and their water-carriers.

You are being simplistic. History is chock full of inventions and systems that were developed for non-military purposes, until they were adapted to military purposes.
