Could Russia’s Sudden Ukraine Retreat Mean A Tactical Nuclear Weapons Strike Is Coming?

How the Situation in Ukraine Could Get Far More Dangerous: After days of a withering Ukrainian counteroffensive, the Russian defense ministry announced that it was withdrawing its forces from two areas in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region. In a video statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky quipped, “The Russian army in these days is demonstrating the best that it can do — showing its back.” Ukrainians celebrated, and rightly so. While Russian spokesmen said that Russian forces were “repositioning” ahead of a new offensive, reporters on the ground cast doubt on such pronouncements both because they mirror Russian statements as it abandoned its drive toward Kyiv and also because Russian forces left in such great haste that they left numerous arms and equipment behind.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Ukraine held about one third of the Soviet nuclear arsenal, the third largest in the world at the time, as well as significant means of its design and production.

In 1993, international relations theorist and University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer published an article including his prediction that a Ukraine without any nuclear deterrent was likely to be subjected to aggression by Russia, but this was very much a minority view at the time.

If they used one of the newer small missiles with nuclear warheads, they’d be shut down real quick. If NATO bowed down to that kind of threat, there would be no end to the expanding suffering. There’s a new evil axis, and it’s trying to break out and conquer the world.

Russian leaders can assume that NATO would give Ukraine some tactical nukes to respond with.

The entire mess is going to end in Russia’s disintegration so that China can take over the Russian East.

Russia is pulling back and will wait for the starvation and freezing cold feels to the EU and the Ukes. That will have the Ukrainians BEGGING to be let into the Russia fold once more.

It is what I would do. If they wanted to do that, all they would have to do is put some incendiary bombs into the crops, to lower the yield, and ‘voila.

"Would you hold an old hand grenade, pull the pin, release the safety lever but continue to hold onto the body of the grenade without throwing it?"

Yes, because they have two pins.

A fairly recent map I believe:

Please post a link to a more current map if you know of one.

"What's the upside when Ukrainian forces are too dispersed for a tac nuke to be effective?"

Yes. From recent news reports and maps, that's the situation. The Ukrainians are aware of the possibility.

One what? They have no nukes — Ukraine gave them all up in return for protection to be provided by (according to the agreement) the US, the UK, and... Russia.

Arguably, if Ukraine had kept a few of those nukes, Russia would have behaved toward them. But, at the time I don’t think even the Ukies completely trusted a future Ukrainian government with nukes, and they did trust in the assurances given them of protection.

Heavy odds are for MAD to moderate the itch to deploy nukes, as long as Vlad is sane enough to understand Ukraine is not an existential threat. If he is not, his reasoning could be that no retaliation for tactical use in the immediate neighborhood is forthcoming against a nation armed to the teeth with canned sunshine.

Still hoping after all these years that Russians love their kids as we love ours.

Russia can probably deliver two million tons of conventional high explosives on Ukrainian targets yearly.

That’s 100 times the explosive force of the Hiroshima bomb.

Come winter any Ukrainian movement will show up in the snow, making targeting much more accurate.

“....totaling approximately 1,700 warheads remained on Ukrainian territory. Formally, these weapons were controlled by the Commonwealth of Independent States.”

Imagine if North Dakota declared independence. The USAF would still control the nuclear weapons in the state. The weapons would remain under the control of the Pentagon and the federal government in DC.

If cold and starvation become the rule in Ukraine this winter, non-military Ukies in a bad way will largely become refugees in Europe. Even with transport problems, there is more than enough food in central and western Ukraine to feed the gov’t, military, and anyone else left.

And, Europe won’t starve or freeze. They might have to wear heavy clothes indoors with thermostats at 16 deg. C. Some factories’ operations may be curtailed. But, mostly they will outbid poorer countries for fuel and food, and it’ll be those poor countries who take the worst hits.

Our great grand children would be asking what was Russia?
———-
Most all Biblical scholars mention (agree) Russia, the nation, is alive and well in the end times, they ( and the Kings of the East) invade Israel. America or any semblance of America is met by silence.

The Bible and it’s prophecy is inerrant.

I don’t have the most current map, but word is that Ukrainian forces have reached Kupiansk, so they’ve gone quite a bit further. You’ll see that city on the map behind your link.

Ukraine Troops Reach Railway Hub as Breakthrough Threatens to Turn into Rout (see Kupiansk in the article)

They were also in Izyum yesterday (also on the map).
