WAX: Here’s Why Texas Governor Greg Abbott is Tanking.
The National Pulse ^ | January 28, 2022 | Gavin Wax

Gavin Wax explains that the once-popular Texas governor is losing support, and narrows down who is to blame.

Once a favorite and a “rising star” in the national Republican Party, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has fallen from grace. Recent polling shows he has lost his lead in the Texas GOP gubernatorial primary, dropping nearly 20 points in just three months.

Abbott’s collapse was not brought about by dishonest attacks from the corporate media. On the contrary, his inauthenticity has become too much for conservative Texas voters to bear. In the era of Trump’s Republican Party, the conventional wisdom of Republican in Name Only (RINO) hacks simply won’t cut it, and it is clear to all that Abbott’s inner circle is chock full of them.

In a previous article, I noted that Mitchell Carney, Abbott’s political director, has a history of Never Trumpism and that he turned on the President at a personally opportune time after January 6th. Carney is far from a lone wolf. In fact, his presence in the Abbott sphere of influence is a product of low-grade nepotism. There is far more to the Carney story that merits examination.

Mitchell’s father, Dave Carney, serves as a senior adviser to Abbott, and has been a swamp dweller for decades. Carney previously served as the White House political director for George H.W. Bush. Like most political operatives, he functions as a parasite, popping up every election cycle to siphon as much donor money off as possible.

Dave Carney’s tweets are as ill-advised as those of his son. He peddled left-wing talking points throughout 2016 in an attempt to sabotage President Trump:

The powerful RINO establishment in Texas needs to be replaced in republican primaries before they turn the state blue, and are removed by democrats like we've seen happen in other red states controlled by establishment republicans.

MAGA! #FJB

Are the RHINOs advising, surrounding Abbott the reason he fails to lead and instead follows whatever seems popular? OR are the RHINOs around him a reflection of the man Abbott? He has not led strongly in state legislative issues either. He talks tough on Fox News but wimpy actions take over in Texas. His words on his border actions get lots of attention but not enough eyes on attention to show he is flopping there. I would love a real conservative leader for Texas. We don’t have that. There aren’t many around I fear. I won’t vote for him in the primary.

I’ll likely vote for Don Huffines in the primary. He has Rand Paul’s endorsement and is the only governor candidate actively campaigning in my part of central Texas.

Me too. Abbott has been too late with his actions.

Trump wholeheartedly endorsed Abbott at yesterday’s rally.

I live in Texas and I’m far happier with Abbott than I ever was with Perry, who was corrupt to the core and didn’t get jack done.

Abbott gets my vote!

Abbott's hand-picked people instituted the deaths of many hundreds of people from just a single cold snap. There were billions of dollars in just water damage in homes from this fiasco, too.

Abbott also forced whole counties to fully mask up if only 20 people in a country were “thought” to have COVID symptoms.

Abbott MUST GO!!

8 years is enough isn’t it? It’s not like he’s all we got(think Susan Collins).

I love Texas and y’all figure who’s good and will win. If Abbott is a failure I get that but if Texas goes blue we’re all finished.

We don’t need an Alamo situation, we need a San Jacinto and we’re counting on you good Texians.

I thought Abbott was doing alright last night at the Trump rally but then he tried to start up a ‘let’s go Trump’ chant which didn’t go over to good. The look on the faces of the audience members behind him said it all. What was that? Is he that out of touch?

Watching RSBN yesterday, when Huffins was walking by and the reporter stopped him for a brief interview.

I am really sorry to say that I was a little underwhelmed.

Reporter asks tell us about your platform and Huffins proceeds to list ALL the qualities and talking points of a conservative. It was said like he was reciting the Ten Commandments.

I was waiting for some personalization of what republicans are, not a “policy by rote” kind of thing.

He should relax more and talk about the ideas he has for improvement. Real ideas. Maybe I caught him at a bad time.

With gun grabber Beta O’Dork as the likely Dem nominee, the Republican primary will be the the winner.

But it’s nice that Beta can incinerate tens of millions of liberal campaign cash in 2022.
