Are the RHINOs advising, surrounding Abbott the reason he fails to lead and instead follows whatever seems popular? OR are the RHINOs around him a reflection of the man Abbott? He has not led strongly in state legislative issues either. He talks tough on Fox News but wimpy actions take over in Texas. His words on his border actions get lots of attention but not enough eyes on attention to show he is flopping there. I would love a real conservative leader for Texas. We don’t have that. There aren’t many around I fear. I won’t vote for him in the primary.

This article and your post rest on the assumption that Abbott’s support is waning because he has one RINO staffer. Just on its face it’s a totally ridiculous claim. First you would have to show that the staffer’s presence resulted in some unknown RINO policies from Abbot. Neither you nor this article have done anything of the sort. On the contrary, Abbott’s most controversial policy has been to outlaw mask and vaccine mandates.
I would say there are two large factors at work.
1. Abbott is a well-worn politician, and was destined to have a tight race no matter who he faced.
2. The valentine’s day 2021 cold front and power outages are being blamed on Abbott. I agree that Abbott shares some of the blame. However, first on the blame list is the power grid set up by George W. Bush where nobody is ultimately responsible for providing Texas electric customers with electricity.
But we aren’t seeing any conservative vilification of Bush’s socialist power system. All we see is more socialists pointing fingers at the conservative stuck with making a silk pourse out of a sow’s ear.
