NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is so tired of seeing celebrities behave like morons that he is renouncing his “celebrity” status this week.

“These celebrities are going freaking crazy and I don’t want to be one. I denounce my celebrity-ness today. I’m done with it,” O’Neal told The New York Post while promoting his new campaign with Kellogg’s.

I like the guy. But I hope Shaquille O’Neal also pulls back on his celebrity endorsements. He’s on my TV hawking everything from car insurance to pizza. I get that you’ve got to make a buck while you can. But Shaq, there is such a thing as overexposure.

Side note: It least he’s not pitching for that fraud outfit “Car Shield” like so many other celebrities are.

A good start. He could have also denounced BLM and kneeling for the flag and then he'd be off to the races.

I like Shaq. He does some good stuff, tries to do some of it anonymously. The 30 for 30 about Shaq and his relationship with Dale Brown is really good.

Shaq is awesome. Has quite the brand recognition for a non celeb though.

I would have thought that he made enough money playing basketball, he wouldn’t have to do endorsements.

“It least he’s not pitching for that fraud outfit “Car Shield” like so many other celebrities are.”

Car Shield is the equivelant of the payday loan scammers.

American Home warranty is an other.

With what you pay for their services in a year or two you could have paid for the repair outright.

Rent to own is another.

I suspect Shaq quietly makes significant charitable contributions, avoiding the virtue signaling so many of the leftist “celebrities” indulge in when they spread a tiny portion of their success around. I don’t begrudge him his endorsements.

Shaq attended the police academy and was/is a sworn deputy of a small police department. AFAIK, he’s one of the good guys.

CarShield routinely denies member claims just because they don’t feel like paying. They’ll say that the damage was caused by poor maintenance on the part of the owner. And that kind of damage isn’t covered.

Too bad, suckers.

And what’s worse is all the fake positive reviews you’ll see online. Most folks don’t know that many “review” websites are just disguised sales sites.

Or selling insurance with the benefits YOU deserve like Joe Namath or that goofy guy from Good Times.
That damn commercial is everywhere!

He’s on my TV hawking everything from car insurance to pizza.

He endorses so many products I wonder if he has reached the point in which he is endorsing competing brands? When I heard that people were complaining about Megan Rapinoe endorsing Subway, my first thought was that they'd probably get Shaq to do it. Maybe he should be the spokesman for everything?

I do find him very likeable, BTW.

Isn’t Shaq a large Pappa John’s Franchisee owner. Not his size but in number of stores.

Read a story about a young man in a jewelry store looking at engagement rings. Had his eye on one but was a little out of his price range. Shaq walked in (it was a local store that he frequents) and while perusing through the store, overheard what was going on. He walked up and pulled out his credit card and gave it to the jeweler and offered his congratulations to the young man.

And also have heard that it’s not the first time he has done things like this.

Welcome to FR.

IIRC, Shaq has a mansion on Lake Bueno Vista outside Orlando.

Hard not to be a celebrity with all the Papa John commercials.
