Trump impeachment inquiry's secrecy, and Nancy Pelosi denying a House vote, weaken Democrats' case
NBC News ^ | October 21, 2019 | Kelly Jane Torrance

A closed-door process won't convince the public — or the GOP — to remove the president.

The House of Representatives didn’t need to vote on articles of impeachment against Richard Nixon in 1974. After millions of Americans watched days and days of hearing proceedings on television, they knew exactly what they thought of the president they’d reelected not even two years before — and Nixon knew they knew. That’s why he resigned on Aug. 9 before Congress ever held a floor vote.

Watergate and its aftermath proved one of the most painful episodes in American political history, but the impeachment inquiry might be said to have brought the country together. When Gerald Ford was sworn into office as Nixon’s replacement, he could reasonably declare that “our long national nightmare is over.”

So nbc doesn’t buy the polls either. Nancy isn’t going to like this.

Schiff’s hearings are conducted as closed door depositions. This means that anyone in attendance, most especially gop members, are forbidden by law from reporting or discussing testimony. This is necessary from Schiff’s point of view, because he is conducting a total fishing expedition, has no idea what he will find, pro or con. He cannot risk having exculpatory testimony being reported out.IOW, kangaroo court.

Pelousy and SorozNazi don’t care if their ‘impeacment’ effort is weakened legally

they’ve got their mass media puppets parroting every damned word of their false allegations, distortions, and lies... on a 24/7 basis

this is their primary purpose... to brainwash the American public into believing that PDJT has done something illegal or wrong

Jos. Goebbels is proud of Pelousy Shiffty and the gang. Very very proud.

NBC wants an on-the-air circus.

This secrecy stuff is just boring television.

“An anonymous source from the Intelligence Committee said that an anonymous witness said that bla bla bla bla...”

NBC wants sensation and a show trial for their own benefit. They should be careful what they wish for.

If Americans are to be confident that this inquiry is serious and fair, and not a last-minute attempt to overthrow the president before next year’s election, Schiff and his colleagues must let Americans watch it take place.

They aren't going to "overthrow" anyone; the chances of that happening fade with every succeeding day. They hope to damage Trump's election campaign, and it doesn't look much like that will happen either given the donor money flowing to Trump contrasted with the trickle toward the DNC. The danger is that impeachment will make that worse. Pelosi has said bravely that it would be worth losing the House to impeach, but would it be worth both losing the House and the Presidency? Because that's what a lot of people see coming.

They are doing as little harm to Trump as Hillary's comments on being a Russian asset did to Tuli Gabbard. Publicity is a good thing when it's done so badly by your enemies.

What a crock. Nixon was setup by the same type of wankers then as now, I expect. Nixon was too liberal for my tastes.

One party simply refuses to accept the results of elections when they don’t win.

The article did get one thing right—the 2020 election is just a year away.

Starting an impeachment (whatever it is) a year before an election seems pointless.

The Watergate “process” (the last such effort) lasted more than a year!

A little Watergate timeline info:
—Televised Congressional hearings on the Watergate affair began on May 17, 1973.
—March 4, 1974—Nixon named as unnamed co-conspirator in Watergate burglar case
—March 18, 1974—The judge in the Watergate burglar case orders the grand jury’s sealed report to be sent to the House Judiciary Committee
—May 9, 1974—House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearings begin
—July 30, 1974—House Judiciary Committee passes recommendation to full House to impeach Nixon
—August 8, 1974—Nixon resigns after Senate Republicans tell him he cannot avoid conviction in the Senate (neither the House or Senate actually cast votes)

As much as it aggravates me to wait the President is refraining from blowing the whistle on Pelosi’s unilateral hijacking of the impeachment process because the people are still with him (which is the only thing stopping Pelosi from proceeding) and it is motivating his base. If he begins to lose the people he’ll out this illegitimate scam and push Barr to begin indictments, possibly with a nationally televised address.

Don't be ridiculous. It's been a 40 year orgasm for Democrats and their suck-ups in the press.

I think Pelosi doesn’t have the votes. I think the case against Trump is very weak or nonexistent. The Democrats are starting to prepare their base for another Shiff burger.

I agree. He was railroaded.
He was also weak ideologically even though he claimed to be a hawk against the communists
.
He signed several treaties in chemical warfare ( ignored by the Soviets), nuclear weapons limits (also cheated by Sovs), opened trade and recognition of China, Ended Viet Nam on bad terms, sold out our energy to OPEC (albeit with security agreements with the intent of keeping the Sovs out of the oil fields of the middle east),,,,,

Nixon was a weak ideologue. W Bush was as well, with his “compassionate conservatism”. Bush lost the focus on the Russians, and now we have catching up to do. Bush also by NOT being strong against the libs, basically their punching bag, led to.....Obama.

Just think of what will happen if the republicans abandon Trump>>>>???? Who/what would be next?
