The Fort Worth, Texas, police officer who fatally shot a woman while she was babysitting her nephew over the weekend has been charged with murder.

Aaron Dean was booked into the Tarrant County Correction Center and later released on $200,000 bond, according to jail officials.

Fort Worth Police Sgt. Chris Daniels acknowledged the outrage that the killing of Atatiana Jefferson, 28, had sparked.

Yes I know this I watched Tommy’s video! However when the cop got there he did not say he was “Da police” He just shined a light and started shooting. What the? The police don’t have to say they are the police anymore? They just start shooting when they get there?

The police officer also brandished his weapon at an unknown target, and he fired it.

Wrong. Wrong and wrong.

He saw her pointing a gun at him. The video proves it. The 8 year old said she did.

She was NOT an unknown target. Get your facts right before arguing with anyone.

“ She should not have had a gun.“

Nice to know you think black folks shouldn’t have guns. The Klan approved of your position.

“ Certainly should not have pointed it at a cop.”

She didn’t know it was a cop. All she saw was a guy sneaking around her backyard at 2 am.

Racist idiot.

Wow, have you actually watched the video? If you can discern the woman, much less the gun, in the video, then you are a psychic. The only gun I can see is a single frame after the rolling video and the gun is NOT pointed at the police officer, it appears to be laying on the floor.

The jury won’t be as forgiving to him since he’s not a cute little petite blond female who can cry at the drop of a hat.

We’ll eventually know more when the event comes before a jury.
The courts and a jury will make the call. As always people have
differing opinions right or wrong.

I wish she would have just shot out the window at whatever was in the bushes. The Castle Doctrine would have backed her up.

I am not going to 'what if' her lack of training. And your statement here is just as irresponsible as the cops actions.

The fact is she broke no law, was minding her own business, and a police officer shot her dead. Something BIG wrong with this, and it happens too frequently.

I didn’t see her in the video.

Point her out to me.

What she did was perfectly reasonable. What the cop did was inexcusable. I hope he fries.

“So is walking down MLK Blvd at 2:30am whistling Dixie. “

LOL! That would be extra spicy.

“She brandished it at an unknown target.”

What is wrong with preparing to defend yourself from an intruder in your back yard at 2:30 AM? If YOU hear someone moving around on your property at night, do you offer cookies?

They didn’t come up sirens blasting but parked away so as not to disturb anyone committing criminal acts.

And we certainly don't want the police to disturb anyone committing criminal acts.

What is your evidence for this accusation of previously unreported criminal negligence on the part of dispatch?

The mayor said her having a gun was irrelevant. Her having a gun and reportedly having pointed the gun at the officer through the window, is definitely relevant. It could be a mitigating factor should the officer claim he was in fear of life and it was self defense.

Does anybody know whether the interior lights were on, allowing the officer to see in the house, but possibly preventing her from seeing out? Because the report said the officer was using his flashlight to look in the window, maybe they were playing video games in the dark.

Also I am curious whether any of the officers entered the house before the shooting. If not, why would they announce they were the police before checking out the exterior?

I’m thinking there is a whole lot more to the story than what is being reported. It’s way to early for the mayor and others to call this a murder, when, at least superficially, it looks more like potentially self defense or at the worst, involuntary manslaughter. Pretty sure the police didn't offer special prizes at roll call for killing innocent black citizens.

Also can’t figure out how this is a civil rights violation.

I guess that’s what the cops get for doing their job. Goes to show how just checking the welfare of a citizen can go sideways so quickly.

Try to keep up. Who says he was scared? And if he was on a burglary call - he did EXACTLY what they taught him at the academy.

And he HAD back up with him.

Irresponsible? That suits me just fine. A lot better than being DEAD.

I’m still waiting for you to point her out to me in the video.

Why the delay?

Also, if he could see her pointing a gun at him, why did he tell her to show him her hands?
