Californians Thrown Curve Ball On Eve Of New Ammo Control

With just over a week to go before a looming ammunition control law takes effect, California officials are backing a new requirement that could leave many unable to buy ammo.

Prop. 63, approved by voters in 2016 after an effort by now-Gov. Gavin Newsom, requires a background check be conducted on all sales of ammunition in the state. Set to go live on July 1, the California Department of Justice just over a week ago filed emergency regulations to require a federally compliant California driver license or ID card to legally buy ammo. The problem is, many in the state don’t currently have one of these “REAL ID” cards yet.

“Many Californians do not yet have the REAL ID, and because it’s not required for air travel until Oct. 1, 2020, they have not rushed to get this new license,” says pro-gun California Waterfowl in an alert. “While some have gotten it easily, many have had to wait a month or two for a DMV appointment to get this ID, so it’s unlikely every gun owner could get this ID in time for the July 1 start date of ammo background checks.”

Alternatively, residents who want to buy ammunition under the new requirements can use a passport or birth certificate to vouch for their status, but advocates point out that most people don’t carry such documentation with them on a trip to the local gun store to buy bullets.

“There is no justification for enacting this requirement this close to the implementation date of ammunition background checks, not when it would effectively treat tens of thousands of law-abiding Californians like criminals by preventing them from purchasing guns and ammunition,” said California Waterfowl.

Worse, on the same day the Prop. 63 rules become active, California’s ban on traditional hunting ammunition expands to all game during all seasons. This means that sportsmen who have legacy lead ammo and are looking to be compliant for the upcoming seasons could be refused such a purchase if they don’t have their papers in order.

Meanwhile, according to conservation statistics, in 1970, there were 763,671 hunting licenses sold in California, a figure that nosedived nearly 70 percent to 269,055 last year while the state’s overall population doubled in the same period.

Attorneys representing the California Rifle and Pistol Association and the National Rifle Association on Thursday submitted a letter to DOJ officials protesting the nature of the emergency regulations, arguing they conflict with federal and state law. The proposed emergency reg has an open public comment period that runs through June 21.

yes and no.
the california dmv is hopelessly inept and often does not check any documents that may be tendered to it
and
most of the docs (whether real or photoshopped) are available for trivial sums at local schoolyards, parks, restaurants, and more

furthermore, all of this is well known to the politicians that sponsored these rules in the first place

It's a short jump to "Papers, please."

Next is
"Your papers are not in order, come with me".

That spare few thousands of dollars is wasting away in an index fund or gold. Just buy a 50 year supply of ammo & guns for your Mormon room.

All the background check, registered or licensed guns and ammo are for Johny come latelies or for sport.

Prepare. That means think 50 years ahead, generations ahead, of the Communist Democrats.

understood
it is, however, SO OBVIOUSLY unconstitutional that even the present scotus may very well chuck it a lot faster than that

we will see, it is true that the wheels of what used to be ‘justice’ in our country.......grind very slowly

Never fear pro-2nd Amendment patriots!

Congress has the express Section 1 of 14th Amendment (14A) power to make penal laws that discourage state actors from abridging constitutionally enumerated protections.

From the 14th Amendment:

In fact, the congressional record shows that when Rep. John Bingham, the main author of Section 1, read the Bill of Rights as examples of constitutionally enumerated protections that 14A applies to the states, he included the 2nd Amendment (2A).

John Bingham, Congressional Globe. (See 2nd Amendment (Article II) from Bingham's clarification about in middle of 2nd column.)

Not only does Congress have the 14A power to make penal laws to deal with misguided, renegade states like California, but the Supreme Court has clarified Congress’s 14A power to do so as follows.

“3. The right of suffrage was not necessarily one of the privileges or immunities of citizenship before the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment, and that amendment does not add to these privileges and immunities. It simply furnishes additional guaranty for the protection of such as the citizen already had [emphasis added].” —Minor v. Happersett, 1874.

H O W E V E R…

We are still stuck with a worthless Congress left over from the lawless Obama Administration that is stubbornly refusing to do its 14A duty to protect constitutionally enumerated protections from abridgment by the states.

So all patriots in the country need to come to the rescue of California patriots whose 2A protections are being trampled on by the state by doing the following.

Patriots need to elect a new patriot Congress in the 2020 elections that will not only promise to support PDJT’s vision for MAGA, now KAG, but will also promise to exercise its 14A powers to make penal laws that discourage state actors from abridging constitutionally enumerated protections, 2nd Amendment in this example.

Remember in November 2020!

MAGA! Now KAG!

We trust that there’s a lawsuit ready to file at the very first denial of sale due to this patently unconstitutional “law”. When will the damned communists learn that Americans will NOT be enslaved?!

The above words are from post #7, which is as far as I’ve read so far. As I continue reading, I will be looking for confirmation from someone that indeed a lawsuit is ready to be filed.

"I’m going to guess that most gun owners there have purchased a lifetime supply before the new regs take effect."

Good guess.

Isn't there supposed to be a background check in order to buy ammo? If we all buy the cheapest product available EVERY DAY from July 1st onward will the system break?

Illegals can not get real ID, least not legally. My initial take is this is actually a good and smart response by the feds to a bad California law. If California says you have to pass a background check to buy ammo, then there better not be illegals buying ammo. A little inconvenience for a few legals who don’t yet have real ID, but a great move against CA lawlessness from Sacramento IMO.

How long before they set up ammo checkpoints on I80 and other highways near state lines? They will probably just repurpose the ag checkpoints.

Pretty much spells the end for shooting sport events like American TrapShooters Association and Ducks unlimited meets/tournaments where it is easy for 1 person to go through several flats of shells daily. If you can’t bring them in from out of state and have to jump through hoops to buy what you need I see the end for these events. I know most of the shooters I shoot with have nothing good to say about it and say they are going to forgo the CA BS entirely

When I got my Real ID almost an hour was spent verifying documents. I would be surprised if the federales under Trump would permit Real ID issuance under lax conditions.

Looks like the long term (near century old) communist/global governance goal to disarm America, is finally happening, due to anti Christian left-wing socialist, now disarming many of the states they have control of.

California is already functionally a beachhead for all enemy entities around the world seeking to create anarchy and chaos in our Constitutional Republic, in order to destroy and subjugated America.

Stolen or not, (and stolen elections are just a means), the repeated elections of the Nancy Poops, and her nephew Gavin Knewnothing, and China Feinstein, are simply a “reading” of the moral decay size, and militancy of the left.
