The Hidden Tribes of America, the Cultural Revolution Underway, and Why We’re Not as Divided as...

I first realized something in America was changing back in November 2015. My family was on vacation in New Zealand to visit my sister who was studying abroad there. A Republican candidate for president, Donald J. Trump, was gaining in popularity on the right. Politics came up. I defended the Donald and I came under attack from my sibling. I became far too defensive. Things got heated and personal and have in the intermittent months since then. We haven’t talked politics for quite some time now.

With Trump’s rise to the White House, things appear to have gotten only more divisive. At least on the surface. I hope you made it through Thanksgiving without any uncomfortable conversations over dinner. But with everything coming back to politics these days, I’m sure many of you were unable to avoid it. The nation feels more polarized than ever and we were already trending in that direction prior to Trump. He has accelerated the division and the hatred of left vs. right. The personalization of politics and the emotional state Americans have been getting in over politics has become unhealthy. I think it peaked during the Kavanaugh confirmation process, but who knows, things are likely to get worse from here as we are entering into the dreaded 2020 presidential race already (one more time for Hillary?).

I notice BOTH labels of conservatives are considered “wings”

3 sub categories of liberals, but only 1 is a wing or fringe.

But only 2 sub category of conservative and both are labeled as wings or fringe.

The divisiveness is Obama’s legacy.

Sorry but the division is vast and cannot be bridged. How do you break bread with an individual who can witness a gruesome human abortion with icy indifference but will weep hysterically at the sight of a tree being cut? The Democratic Party, the party of abortion, drug use, open borders, pervasive homosexuality, pathetic dependence, celebrity worship and neo paganism, is giving up the pretense of even being American. They are now evolving as socialist globalists with little regard for American sovereignty and distinctiveness. Would you really want a Democrat in your home?

Donald Trump only exposed the deep divisions in the USA. He did not create them. The whole premise of the article is crap.

No, he hasn't. He is putting voice to what many of us have seen for decades, but it is the left that is becoming more polarized and intolerant. Those leftists who attack conservatives are not responding to anything the conservatives have done. Much like bullies/abusers in any other situation, they attack and then blame the victims for the fact that the victims' very existence provokes the liberals into attacking.

I agree the division is vast, but the six countries he shows are asinine. Ain’t no way the vast rural areas of the Northeast and Midwest would go along with domination by NY City and Boston. What the map ignores is that those of us on the conservative side control easily 90 percent of the US land area and would never accede to any type of partnership with the godless leftists.

The article and alleged incidents are hogwash.
Trump has brought conservatives and labor together.
And exposure is not division. The divides were there much before Trump, just concealed and repressed by the Liberals and their sex worker Journalists.
I call Fake News on the OA.

As long as there is Twitter or derivatives thereof, there will be division.

This is not a slam at our president, but a slam on our current culture. Journalists, politicians, CEO’s, Hollywood, our children are all scared to death how they are portrayed on twitter.

That is where PC finally became king and where presumption of innocence, along with due process were thrown out the window.

Words mean something.

Silly test! I came out as moderate, even though I am conservative. The computer interpreted my political answers as being critical of Trump because of my discouragement about the direction the country is traveling.

Too simplistic - must be made for the “younguns” - I am 75 years old, and remember when the country was much more stable, both socially and economically.

The Right believes now exactly what it believed 50 years ago. The Left have shifted left every year over that same time. It is now possible to put together video montages only a few years old, of the current Left leadership literally contradicting themselves
