Don't you think that it's weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission?

Back in 1977, I was a freshman in high school and there was a girl in my class that I liked. I ended up asking her out on a date.

I not sure that could happen in today's world. I'd probably end up in jail or accused of something bad. So consequently, I would need to content myself with admiring the girl from a distance.

Part of the Me Too Movement.
You know, the Harridans who shriek at American gentlemen for opening doors or looking at them but have no problens with Islamist pigs who stone women and treat them like personal property.

I think I have read most of the “original” fairy tales, not Disney versions, especially Hans Christian Andersen and Brothers Grimm. Also, Peter Pan. I think it depends on how far back we go to get to the horrific stuff. Even Little Red Riding Hood was creepy.

Yes, Eros ( Cupid ) & Psyche is the original prototype of the much later two fairy tales. I've loved fairy tales ( especially the originals ) since I was a tiny child and figured out the EROS & PSYCHE thing long, long, LONG ago. :-)

Psyche isn't "allowed" to see her lover, though he isn't a "beast". She has three "tasks" that she must perform a la Cinderella in almost ALL of the 500 + versions. Then there are the vile sisters, the sometimes dead mother/step mother, and the weak father.

Bruno Bettelheim does a GREAT explanation re fairy tales and just WHY they are SO very good for ALL children to know. It's a crime that fewer and fewer parents have bothered to read them their children, in the past almost 70 years.

I am afraid that I actually asked my beautiful wife if I could kiss her on our first date.

Many years later after she had passed away, I was reading her diary. Goodness, I made a terrible mistake. She almost stopped dating me.

On the positive side she thought I looked good in jeans.

so how will she wake up ,roll her onto the floor ?

In the original Snow White, the wicked stepmother tried killing her several times. The Dwarves revived her each time. The last time was with the poisoned apple. The Dwarves tried everything they could think of, but nothing worked. They placed her in a glass coffin (she was in a type of suspended animation - she never decomposed). A while later a prince saw her in the coffin and begged the Dwarves to allow him to take her back to his castle. As they pick up the coffin, one of the prince’s sevants tripped and dislodged the piece of apple from her throat. She revived instantly. So yeah, they essentially rolled her onto the floor.

Nope...the frog demanded a kiss, to return her gold ball to her.

“Just about everyone posting here is talking about Sleeping Beauty, but the princess actually mentioned in the excerpt is Snow White.”

The original confusion was with the bimbo mother:

‘Don’t you think that it’s weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission?’ she asks her girls. ‘Because you can not kiss someone if they’re sleeping!’

She said no. After high school, I got up the nerve to ask her again and she accepted. It was a bit awkward. I borrowed my father's car that had 8-track tapes of Johnny Cash, George Jones and Wanda Jackson. She was more into Diana Ross, the Bee Gees and Olivia Newton John so I put the radio on a Top 40 station. We went to an Italian restaurant and I got tomato sauce on my shirt. Then we went to a donut place afterwards for coffee. I almost got into a car accident driving her home. I tried calling her for a second date but her father answered the phone and told me not to call again.

Years later, I found out that she got married, had a couple of kids, got divorced, and was living back with her parents. I was already married myself at the time so I didn't pursue things any further. She should have stuck with me.

I've always LOVED the Hans Christian fairy tales! many of them are pretty gruesome too.

In the original LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, the wolf eats Red and her grandmother and no huntsman shows up to save them.

Before there was the net, before there was T.V., before there was radio, before most people could read...people entertained each other by telling stories during or after dinner.

Go back far enough, through the mists of time, people made up stories to try to explain all kinds of "natural" things and/or teach lessons, as well as just being entertainment.

This was 73. Afterwards I learned that she knew a lot more about kissing than I did. She was the campus beauty, actually was queen of her high school.

She was very intelligent and had a 3.97 GPA back when that was very rare. I graduated Troy with a 2.1 GPA. We took the Federal Civil Service Exam together and she was surprised that I scored 98.7 and she scored 89.

If he doesn’t kiss her, she doesn’t wake up. Then you have no story.
