‘I’m going to do my own thing’: Dems split on message in SCOTUS fight

As they start a Supreme Court battle with control of the Senate on the line, Democrats want to talk about Obamacare. And Roe v. Wade. And the special counsel’s investigation into President Donald Trump.

That’s not to mention Democratic concerns about how Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh would rule on guns, unions, voting rights and more. While the GOP is promoting Trump’s pick with a singular message — touting Kavanaugh’s ample qualifications — Democrats are offering multiple arguments against him that each speak to multiple parts of their base and the electorate.

The multi-part strategy reflects a perennial challenge for a party that has struggled to succinctly communicate its agenda to voters.

“We have a long history of making simple arguments overly complicated, and we have a long history of thinking that we need to compartmentalize our messages for different groups,” said Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.). “We need to get over both of those addictions if we are going to defeat Brett Kavanaugh.”

Interviews with more than a dozen Democratic senators on Wednesday indicated that, while some in the caucus see the multiple Supreme Court messages as a potential political risk, others are shrugging and going their own way on Kavanaugh.

There is one unified message they all believe, but they know they can't make it the public message. They oppose any Trump nominee, no matter how well qualified. Most of them opposed Kavanaugh before he was even announced.

But that message won't sell in Trump states like W. Va. or N.D. So, they will serve a different whine each week and hope they can block him.

Nominee response should be as simple as, “I can’t give you specific answers to generalizations you make about anything.”

Republicans can confirm Kavanaugh with a simple majority, after killing the filibuster on Supreme Court nominee last year to confirm Neil Gorsuch.

No, it was the 'Rats and hairy reed that killed the filibuster, for the nominees at the time in 2013. Trying to put a "but not for scotus" rider to the new rule was disingenuous, and would have certainly been done if the opportunity presented itself anytime after 2013. Well, now it's 2018, and the other party, thanks to the 'Rat sinate leader, is just following in hairy reeds footsteps.

In asking what is your position on X issue, the Demonrats are revealing that their intent in any federal judge is to use that judge as an unaccountable super legislator, but especially the SCOTUS, because there is nowhere else to go after our black robed lords rule.

The fact on the matter the Democrats lie their way into power. use to be their insane Leftist base played along. That is how they won in 1992, 2006 and 2008. They pretending to be something they were not and the insane wing of their base played along.

Now the the Insane Left has so far lost it they are are not willing to stand by and let the Dems lie their way into power.

Why don’t they call it what it is. A blatantly rude attack on the nominee to turn two Republican Senators. With a united Republican front, Kavanaugh just has to keep calm and answer questions and how it pertains to the Constitution.

If that’s all he does, he’s in.

Grouch Marx said whatever you are for, I’m against it.

Marx is the spiritual leader of the Democrat party.

Democrat politicians don’t want Kavanaugh to free their constituents from slavery. After Democrat voters get wealthier and have more freedoms as a result of the better Supreme Court justices, it will be the end of the political road for their politicians.
