The United States of Suicide: 25% Surge Since 1999 Brought on by Debilitating Depression and...

Here’s a shocking and telling statistic on the direction of American society today: suicide rates have risen sharply in every U.S. state (except Nevada, which was already alarmingly high) from 1999 to 2016, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Suicide rates are up more than 30 percent in half of the states over the last couple decades. There were 45,000 suicides in 2016, up from 44,193 in 2015. Suicides on average across the nation have increased by 25%.

Depression, isolation, opioids, technology, and substance abuse are to blame. But more important than the causes is the fact that we need to learn to talk about this, open up with how we’re feeling to those closest to us, and learn how to handle life on life’s terms instead of ending it all. Taking one’s own life is tragic yet cowardly and the dramatic spike should be of utmost concern to every American.

I’ll bet it really took off after the 2016 elections when the snowflakes found out their communist, “everything is free” utopia was put on hold by the American people.

I wonder how much the use of psychotropic medications plays a part in the increased suicide rate.

I don't believe this for one second. For half of that period, we had...

...and we had...

...AND we had...

The suicide rate should have been zero. Just like the man.

And yet they still prescribe anti-depressants even though they are known to cause suicidal feelings.

I think the problem is they pass those pills out like candy.

Witness the large number of military who are given anti-depressants for PTSD, when what they really need is someone to listen to them.

A nihilistic culture of death is to blame. People have experienced much worst economically in times past, but when the moral fabric is not just torn, but removed, there is nothing to reassure oneself with.

"Depression, isolation, opioids, technology, and substance abuse are to blame."

I would add atheism, narcissism, nihilism and the self-esteem movement.

The truth about Bourdain, Spade and suicide
Exclusive: Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson trounces ‘experts’ giving wrong solutions

Excerpt:
In my 28 years of counseling with people, I’ve discovered the root cause of emptiness and depression which drives people to suicide is resentment and hatred toward our parents – usually anger toward the mother. When a person has anger – especially toward a parent – his/her soul is disconnected from God.

No matter how much money, fame and praise people get from the world, it’s never enough to fulfill the emptiness. The void can only be filled when we forgive our parents for failing us, and repent of the judgment and resentment that we’re harboring against them. Then we can reconnect with God, who will fill the emptiness with real love and inner peace. Nothing else will do.

I have seen the suicide rates spike in recent weeks after a slow run up probably brought on by recent high profile people who have made the news.

Last time we had a spike like this the State Run Media was beating the drums of “it’s the worst economy in the last 50 years” prior to Clinton’s first term.

So my take is once again, our wonderful media is causing people to kill them selves. They must be proud.

It probably has a lot to do with telling the tender little university children how the world is according to socialist professors and then they go out into the real world and there is no one to give them play dough and change their diapers

Bourdain's mother was probably the connection that got his famous first article into The New Yorker.

She was a writer just like him, so he probably admired her and felt a kinship with her.

I don't see how hatred of his parents had anything to do with Bourdain's suicide.

And men being accused of being sexual offenders.

I’ve heard of suicide cases because of that.

1999 to 2016 — we had Clinton, Bush and Obama as president. The spike in suicides doesn’t surprise me.

Social media most likely plays a role in addition to increased dependency on both legal and illegal drugs.

I think social media can be a downer ... I see people my age whose families, careers, homes ... everything ... look so much better than my situation.

But someone said we are comparing our bloopers with everyone else’s high-lights or “best-of” video.

The almost certain direct correlation is something the pharmaceutical industry and psycho-babble pseudo-medical profession would, and no doubt are, paying large sums to keep out of the news.

That is part of it, but normal people also can become bullies on social media.
