Car Break-Ins and Property Theft on the Rise in California Following Passage of Prop 47

California crime is on the rise and many residents of the Golden State are now regretting the passage of a significant law implemented a few years ago that essentially emboldened criminals despite its good intentions.

In November 2014, California voted in favor of Prop 47, a law aimed at reducing charges from felonies to misdemeanors for drug and property crimes, including theft. The intention was to reduce the state’s prison population and emphasize rehabilitation, helping drug addicts keep a felony off their record for what lawmakers view as minor crimes.

“They just piss and moan.”

And probably voted for that proposition.

In my city the police don’t give a damn about criminal activity caught on security cameras.

They are union and very lazy. Plus they seek out law-abiding white people to target and avoid real crime committed by hardened criminals of color, because it is safer for them. They overtly avoid contact with criminals. I see it with their selective blindness.

Thus, there is no point in having security cameras.

No doubt some of them probably would have. Fortunately this is the land of bluegrass and unless you live in Lexington or Louisville you do not have to suffer under the rule of the libtards.

One thing they get right or left, depending on the hand or lack thereof.

Crime has picked up around here too, which previously was a fairly crime-free area, except for the occasional pot or meth bust or domestic squabble. Over the holidays for the first time, we had mail theft and porch pirates — they would steal stuff, take it to the green belt, open it and leave the trash (with identifying information) all over the place. Now, last week, three streets in this tract, including mine, were hit by vehicle break-ins. Thanks a lot, Jerry Brown and the rest of you liberal do-gooders.

Many years ago, about 30 years, while living in Richmond, VA someone broke the passenger window out of my car then tore out 1/4 of my dashboard to get my stereo out.

They also hit a nice car just around the corner. Smashed his window and ripped the stereo out of the dashboard.
Luckily they were dumb enough to grab a set of keys in the glove compartment.
Lucky?
Yes because they realised the keys were to the owners business and they were stupid enough to return the next day offering to sell the keys back to the owner.
While pretending to get the money to pay them he called 911.
The cops were waiting when the guys left with the money.

That arrest was what broke a theft ring that had been operating for some time. It had been on police radar for a year.
When the police raided the rings HQ they snagged around 10 adults and close to 100 juveniles IIRC. There was a warehouse full of high end car stereos and other amenities for cars.
The adults ran the ring while using juveniles to do the actual smash and grabs.

At that same time Richmond was, per capita, the murder capital of the US.

For people who may not know, another term for Prop 47 is CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM.

“They go through the neighborhood at night checking for people who have left their cars unlocked. “

If they doing it on private land in Texas, they’re putting their lives at stake...particularly if they’re ‘lucky’ enough to find an unlocked car.

That has been my pet peeve for as long as I can remember. People fill their garages full of yard sale junk and then park their $30-40k car in the driveway. I live in a country club neighborhood and very few people use their garages. BMW’s and Mercedes parked in the driveways. We have always used our garage for both cars. People can’t tell if we’re home or not (for break ins, and our cars are safe and out of the elements.
Just irritates me. Lol

You mean the tweekers on bicycles? Yep, they’re like cockroaches as they come out at night. They’re usually sporting a backpack. I live in San Jose and see em all the time. I’m usually awake till midnight and frequently look at my window for them and almost pray one of them attempts to break into my truck so I can confront him and ruin his night. A couple hard raps to their hands and wrists will slow them down.

We’ve had homes with 2 car garages since 1983. We have NEVER found it necessary to leave our cars outside. Currently we have LOTS of shelving, 2 cars and a motorcycle in our garage & I can walk anywhere needed in the garage.

Stuff that is infrequently accessed is stored in the attic. It’s worth the little extra effort to free up the space.

Every couple of years we do a complete evaluation and reorganization of the garage. Stuff isn’t used for a couple of years it gets gone unless there is a special reason.

BTW, the same people that whine about their cars getting hit by thieves, also got nailed last year in a nasty hailstorm we had. Just doesn’t sink in, though. Still parking outside. I don’t think one of them is parking in the garage now.

A co-worker told me when he was a security guard in 2011 in Ventura, CA he would find the homeless who were living in the nearby dry riverbed would break into company cars in a insurance company parking lot and sleep. They would be kicked out and the cars had to be cleaned as they smelled real bad afterward.

Today the police do not even bring them to court until they commit 25 <-— misdemeanors. If you are not a bum you get hauled into court in the first.

Is there a difference between regular, good old fashioned “executed,” and “summarily executed?”
