105 cruise missiles is hardly a major event
My Fetid Mind | April 14th, 2018 | Mariner

For all those who are steamed up over the strike in Syria, just remember HHS loses that much money in accounting errors every month.

$100 million for 105 cruise missiles.

As for their actual impact, 105 cruise missiles are no more a deterrent for Assad, nor provocation for Russia, than the 59 cruise missiles last year.

It's apparent Russia turned off their S400 systems and let the US have a fireworks display.

Nobody believes it changes anything in Syria. Or the calculus employed in Iran or Norklandia.

Seriously, a French “National Assessment”? Please stop. It carries the same weight for me as Alex Jones or Cernovich, which is nil, with the exception being both Jones & Cernovich voted for Trump.

I have no idea what you even think you are talking about. I have never voted for a dem in my life and never will, and voted for Trump in 2016 twice and will do so every chance I get in the future.

That doesn’t change my opinion of playing stupid games with Arabs. Didn’t we all agree enough of W-isms?

That is a very good point. Russian blinked and pulled their military out of the way, Iran was mute. America and allies rule. Don’t mess with us. And, in recognition of the naysayers and people with their panties in a twist, all done very cheaply, with minimal risk to Americans, and no apparent American casualties. MAGA is accomplished.

Better get some new accountants, then!

If the US didnt get a read on our cruise missile performance vs the S400, this was a waste of time and money.

Working on getting America's reputation back after 8 catastrophic years of Obama.

It's apparent Russia turned off their S400 systems and let the US have a fireworks display.

I understand your meaning here, Russia did not shift to tactical, targeting and fire control radars, or select which type of missiles to use against any of the incoming missiles, but their observational capabilities were always on. The Russians chose to not use the S-400 System, they did not turn it off.

Likely, the Coalition were hoping that they would spin up and fire some S-400 assets.

The S-400 is only effective against airborne targets, and the UK aircraft were the only manned airborne targets, they took off from Grecian Southern Cyprus, launched their 8 or so Stormshadow cruise missiles, and returned to base.

The maximum S-400 anti aircraft range is about 250 miles (anti missile range, 90 miles), so the Brits were safe at 80% of S-400 range and could see them coming from far off.

Syria's older systems could knock down Stormshadows, so using rare S-400 assets would reveal more about S-400 than Russia wants to, short of protecting Russian flagged troops.

There were a couple B-1's that rippled off some missiles too.

“It’s apparent Russia turned off their S400 systems”

It’s possible the S-400s were jammed. It’s also possible that the US informed Russia through backchannels that if the S-400s went into targeting mode, they’d be destroyed. Finally, SAM systems can only shoot at things they can illuminate with their radar, and cruise missiles fly very low to avoid that very thing.

I will say that the US should be developing a cheap, stealthy cruise missile using modern technology.

So possibly PDJT knows things I/we don’t?

Most Presidents do.

And meanwhile many states are openly promoting illegal voting.

So I noticed and we’ll see how this plays out. Was it #41 who bumped up to a 90% approval, post GWI, only to get kicked in the pants by some obscure governor from Arkansas?

Or we've paid off some Russians and know more about the S-400 and how it works than their technicians do.

Yes, and our Republican-led congress refuses to buy into #MAGA. But yeah! SYRIA! “Mission Accomplished”!

The chemical weapons and the facilities to produce and store them are gone.

Those we know about, yes. But there may be more in ISIS hands that are unknown to us. Resupply from Iran, for example.
