Why do we have an epidemic of autism?
Why did we never hear of it or even see kids with symptoms 50 or 60 years ago?
Growing up I never knew any kid that even acted like he exhibited any debilitating symptoms of autism. We had shy kids but not autistic ones. We also didn’t have AHD. Instead we just had unruly kids that needed their buts swatted and some time alone to think about what they were doing.
Anyone who is around autism personally or professionally recognizes the differences
Btw in the good ol day folks of all ages used to self medicate their adhd and depression issues with cigarettes and booze - now there are a lot more ways to do so
There are varying levels of autism. I have two grandchildren with it. My 10 year old grandson has a mild case of it. In the older days, you would never know that he had anything. He acts a little childish for his age, but he goes to school and talks normally. He does have some problems when his routine is interrupted and he seems to get lost in handheld video games.
My 4 year old granddaughter is at a different level. She doesn’t speak, no eye contact, and doesn’t like displays of affection except from her mother. She smiles a lot and is happy, but you would have known that there was something wrong. But we probably would have called in mental retardation back in the day.
Valid points & agreed for reasons about which I’m not elaborating today...
