But Dylan and Harris were underage and did not buy the weapons themselves anyway. They had a friend who was 18 buy them.

“Because Harris and Klebold were both underage at the time, Robyn Anderson (with whom Klebold attended the prom three days before the shooting), an 18-year-old Columbine student and old friend of Klebold’s, made a straw purchase of two shotguns and a Hi-Point carbine for the pair”.

So in that case Feinstein’s law would not work (if passed) and would lead to the same sort of thing among others if it does become law. The ones wishing to use the weapons for murder would find a way, as they have in the past.

A Jewish school down the road has serious looking guards on the street at their driveway all dressed in black suits. All they do is keep an eye on entering vehicles. The look like Secret Service guys.

We cannot prevent the next one.

There have ALWAYS been bad people and there always WILL be bad people.

True. And not only that, each shooting tends to inspire those on the margin to plan and commit the next atrocity.

School shootings have increased because of the news media makes each one the top news for weeks and makes the shooter a household name. So the media has blood on its hands .

Want to prevent the next one? Stop promising fame and TV immortality to every would be mass shooter and how about actually having a lot of police at every gun free zone to protect the unarmed ?

The news media cause these mass shooting murders. A mentally ill loser wants the fame the news media will give him if he shoots up a school. The news media makes a loser nobody ever paid attention to a household name and world famous.

And why aren't there more police protecting government schools and schools?

What’s that bunch at the Airports?
You wouldn’t need scanners...
Just armed greeters like Wal-Mart.

Investigate?! There was plenty of that. We should be arresting people on the basis of their potential to commit a crime. Oh wait.

To hell with the FBI. How about we quit disarming people? How about we quit making safe working environments for murderers?

Tens of thousands of young people are overdosing on drugs every year. Many more are on drugs and are incompetent to possess firearms while they are under the influence. That’s also true of people on psychoactive drugs while they are under the influence of those drugs. We love people who are mentally slow to the extent of being like children, but they don’t have firearms. Our founding fathers never intended for the incompetent to bear arms.

It’s a challenge that would only be properly dealt with at the local level, though. And measures concerning people under the influence of drugs should only be applied as long as they are under the influence—not for the rest of their lives for those who become drug-free.

The problems with Cruz should have been dealt with locally, but it was Broward County, Florida.

Fla. shooting suspect had a history of explosive anger, depression, killing animals
The Washington Post

February 15, 2018
Cruz started throwing eggs at Speno’s car with no warning, Speno recalled. He and a friend chased Cruz back to his house. "We were pissed off, so we knocked on the door and his mom came out," Speno said. When the two told her what happened, Cruz’s mom had a strange reaction. "She said, ‘No, my son would never do that. He’s inside sleeping,’ " Speno recalled.

“... How do we prevent the next one?”

First off, when the fire alarm is set but shots are also heard, do not herd into the hallway, but stay inside the class room with ARMED teacher(s). Otherwise, educate yourself online in home school, with mom.
Mom? Home? (I know... sadly, in today’s “career” minded world that can draw a laugh.)

No hand wringing needed.

You said:

“Things need to change. If that means making it harder to get a gun, then, by all means, do it. If that means requiring people to take a mental health screening before purchasing firearms, and then making them wait a month - then do it. If that says law enforcement must investigate every gun owner, then do it. Do whatever it takes to keep the guns away from the bad guys while still allowing the good law-abiding citizens to bear arms after successfully going through the proper protocol. Think about this - why is it easier to buy an AR-15 in Florida? Why is it harder to buy a handgun? The shooter might have only killed seven people if he used pistols. Sure, they’re both semi-automatic, but stopping to reload for 20 seconds could have allowed people time to run or hide and save a few lives. There must be a compromise where both sides give a little bit in hopes to keep Americans safe.”

I’m not a bad guy. Why do you gun grabbers always confuse law-abiding citizens with criminals?

Restricting my and every other law-abiding person’s rights to purchase firearms WHEN THEY NEED THEM is not going to bring back a single persons life. What protocol? The only one is the 2nd Amendment.

In the 1970s terrorists were targeting Israeli school, successfully. By the mid 1980s until the present what Israel has done has stopped that carnage. Perhaps We The People should listen to what the Israelis suggest we do ...

If the football coach/security guard had been armed and shooting back instead of unarmed and trying to shield students, the outcome might have been different. If the “professional school shooter” knew he was going to meet armed resistance, he might have opted for a different “profession”.

Totally agree. Arm teachers. Two fold
effect...no more liberal teachers, no
one will attack schools knowing their
life hangs on a bad decision. People
shooting back is a strong deterrent.

Parents refuse to discipline their children. They will continue to grow up throwing temper tantrums, but with guns next time.

Yes, when we had more parental discipline and more school discipline we had almost none of these events.

The wife just had a meeting yesterday on this issue. They estimate that there are about 3 million in society with homicidal issues running about.

She works at a mental healthcare clinic. If the cops would have taken this kid in for a 72 hour eval, this might not have happened.
