Then they need to make it a Federal crime for a journalist to purposely lie or use an uncorroborated whisper in the ear as a factual story....

Will the journalists wear “pathological leftist liar” badges so we know who they are?

I must have overlooked the part of the US Constitution that gives "journalists" a monopoly on the First Amendment.

Can anybody point me to it?

That is fine. Perhaps it should be attached to a law against publishing false and misleading statements that are based on rumors, innuendos or unproven, unsupported statements...In other words, Censorship for media if they want to have accountability.

“Then they need to make it a Federal crime for a journalist to purposely lie or use an uncorroborated whisper in the ear as a factual story.”

The drawback to that is that the forces of evil might be able to claw their way back into power.

We’d all be arrested for what we post here.

WTF? So, if I'm not talking to somebody about sex and if a journalist within earshot claims to be intimidated because she thinks I am, they could arrest me, charge me with a felony and send me to jail? That does not compute! How would probable cause be established?

Sure, but the evilstream misleadia would claim that what we post here intimidates them.

With the means of the transmission of information so readily available, in contrast to the era of the huge, expensive printing press, I wonder if the “Fourth Estate” should have any special status.

“And what is their definition of an “attack” anyhow? Is it a rebuttal? Discrediting? Calling them out on their lies? Not accepting their screed as gospel? Or do they mean actual physical assault?”

It would only be an “attack” if a conservative rebutted, discredited or failed to accept their articles as gospel.

Are “Federal Crimes” still illegal when committed by the feds?
Should James Rosen (and his parents) have been protected from “intimidation”?

The House had a committee developing a bill that would give jounalists special considerations and licensing. Not sure if this guy was part of that group.

Not a chance in hell, but Mad Maxine is, after all, merely trying to do nationally what certain universities have already done with respect to activists on the Left: to speak out against feminist, gay, or minority activists is strictly verboten and is punishable by public shaming and expulsion. So it isn't as far-fetched as it appears, but it is as stupid as it appears.

We are indeed journalists. Name me one legal difference between a “journalist” and us, or a blogger.
Journalists do not have a single right that we do not also have...not one.

Yeah - I’ve never understood the whole idea of the Press Card. I mean who decides which ‘journos’ get special access and who doesn’t?

Why are certain people provided access to people and areas that other citizens aren’t?

And how do I apply for one if I were to decide to change my career?

Sadly, since there's NOT a legal definition of ‘journalist’ this law will morph into being ‘a federal crime’ to speak poorly of the ‘elites’ representatives... for a better word, their ‘propagandists’.

Hello George Orwell... hello every totalitarian hellhole in the history of mankind...your idiots are calling.

There is no such thing as a “journalist” constitutionally speaking. Every American possesses every right, freedom, and privilege that a so called “journalist” does.

Yes, there is no need to promote "journalist" to a federally-protected special group. We already have laws

18 U.S. Code § 241 - Conspiracy against rights

>>>If California Democrat Eric Swalwell gets his way—and with Maxine Waters among 12 other Congressional Democrats on his side, who’s to say he won’t—it will now be a federal crime to “intimidate” or attack journalists.<<<

Unless the journalists are Republicans, conservatives, or if they’re trying to investigate corrupt and treasonous Democrats...then it’s okay.

“There is no such thing as a “journalist” constitutionally speaking.”

Constitutionally speaking, yes there is. The First Amendment specifically enumerates the freedom of the press and that enumeration does indeed grant reporters a broad latitude to report news.

However, subsequent court decisions have ruled that anyone can be a reporter when acting in that capacity. You do not need to have press credentials to be protected by the free press clause of the First Amendment.
