Trump's Parade Is Political Genius
Politico ^ | February 07, 2018

Posted on 02/07/2018 9:30:35 PM PST by Helicondelta

As with many of his Republican predecessors, Trump has effectively tapped into the sense among millions of Americans that pride in the United States is diminishing, not only abroad but at home. Many of his supporters share a sentiment that D.C., N.Y. and L.A. “elites” are embarrassed about our country and our achievements.

This is why, as a candidate for the White House, Trump frequently lambasted President Barack Obama for his alleged global “apology tour.” It’s why he’s waded into the protection of confederate monuments and claimed that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln might be the next to go. This is why he literally embraced the American flag.

It’s why he made such a big deal about NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem, so much so that he’s almost achieving the unthinkable—turning some red-blooded Republican men against football.

The president’s State of the Union was pockmarked with so many tributes to American symbols—our flag, our motto, our anthem—that you almost expected him to bring out a freshly-baked apple pie and start eating it mid-speech. So much of what Trump does seem random, but all of this has a clear purpose. Trump understands, perhaps instinctively, that an appeal to national pride like calling for a gleaming, glorious military spectacle touches a nerve with many Americans.

At the same time, the president is overtly tying his administration to the most popular institution in our nation—perhaps the only popular institution left—the United States military. More to the point, he’s daring the Democrats, and their allies in the media, to stand apart and oppose it. By doing so, Democratic leaders appear either as killjoys complaining about excessive costs (as if frugality were a Democratic Party hallmark) or as diminishing the achievements of the military or the need to publicly extol them.

All in all, it’s a pretty clever trap.

Spacex launch united people. Hopefully more of that to come.

But even with all the divides in America...i think the fact we openly debate and contest each other IS a part of our strength too...unites us in a way. Our agreement that differences are a normal by-product of freedom.

I am talking general population here, not Deep State.

Other countries like Russia and No. Korea have military parades...but they’re often used as cover for or distraction from weaknesses in the social fabric.

Our country has so much substance with or without parades and shows. But i am all for a parade also.

This military parade thing is just The Donald making a joke, right?

Parades should be on 4th of July. The way it was a long time ago. Make 4th of July great again.

It is also a good way to get a lot of military power into Washington without arousing suspensions of the Deep State, before the roundup. :-) We can only hope!

People are already threatening to lie down in front of the tanks - maybe all the DACA caca should do that - BOOM, problem solved.

kdot I think has the right idea. But,
instead of a strong military presence,
lots of marching bands, displaying
American flags, marching to the tune
of the national anthem. The spectators
of national pride would stand with hands
over hearts, not kneeling, or fists
in the air. But I must digress,
as this would probably cause mass
rioting.

It's a trap alright. Fake news put out as red meat for a leaker to take the bait and reveal themselves.

” Our agreement that differences are a normal by-product of freedom.”
Only problem here is, we see it that way, but the looney left just fumes and complains. They do not like facts. It’s their way, or no way.

People want to vacation and see fire works on the 4th of July. What is wrong with Veterans Day?

Trump has the right idea. This is for our troops......all over the world....past and present.

Take a look at the Bastille Day Parade he attended.

Tanks and jeeps running down the street. We had and still have this type of parade in my hometown.

I hope not - it will unmask the Left’s absolute hatred of our military and have them calling our warriors “baby killers” and other such stuff again.....

Agreed. I was stationed in Wash DC for 7 years. Jul 4th is too hot for an all-day parade. Veterans Day is perfect.
