I was living in MA at the time of the crash. You’d have had to be there to believe the coverage it got. My recollection is that it was all day every day for at least a week.
There is a symbiosis between MA and the Kennedys—more then than now. No detail was too minor; it was all anyone there seemed to care about at the time.
It was not just the three victims. It was from a Navy ship sent north from Norfolk (IIRC). JFK jr was not a military veteran and should not have been granted burial at sea from a USNavy ship. It was very bizarre. I feel very sorry for the family of the two women.

I was living in NYC at the time. The locals were also mighty interested in how this could have happened. I imagine the news reports from big and local media were similar if not identical.
I frankly do not buy the official story. As you know, the msm is prone to lying when it suits their agenda.
Still, I know that I could be 100% wrong.

That was an insane time.
The US Navy,and others,spent millions to find the bodies.
Then the the US navy spent MORE money to throw them back in the water.

I too am of a suspicious nature where the MSM is concerned, but I buy the official story in this case. JFK Jr had planned to fly early enough to avoid the hazardous sunset conditions. His wife and her sister were the direct cause of their extremely late departure. Given his limited skills, JFK Jr should have accepted the offer of the instructor to accompany him. But it was a short flight that he had made before, and he thought he could do it.
It was listening to experienced pilots describe what happened that convinced me. The conditions were perfect to derail an inexperienced flyer. JFK Jr’s eyes would have been telling him one thing, while his instruments told him the opposite. He simply did not have the flight time/hours under his belt to enable him to disregard his own eyes in favor of the instruments. He tried to make sense of what his eyes were telling him, and ended up in a graveyard spiral.
For some reason, whatever Ted Kennedy wanted, he got. It wasn’t right, but that’s the way it was.
I can’t speak to the issue of the front seat or the fuel switch, but I don’t believe he had an instructor on board for this flight. I certainly wouldn’t put it past the Clintons to off someone who got in their way, but I don’t believe it happened in this case.
I remember seeing Air Disasters one night, where they were talking about this crash. IIRC they said the plane had an autopilot.
Your recollection is correct. The plane had a very good autopilot, but at the time of the crash it was not engaged/in use.

Hmm maybe, but only because he was a Kennedy, kind of like Obama was elected both because he was black and e!itist material. As a matter of fact wasn’t it JFK Jr.’s fat uncle Ted Kennedy who got Obama elected? Was it revenge?
At least we finally seem to be running out of Kennedys. After the swath of damage Ted wreaked, it hasn’t happened a moment too soon.
When a sitting US senator asks the Navy for a favor, they tend to try VERY hard to satisfy the senator. If that senator is the head of any number of committees that fund Navy projects, they try even harder...
He was simply a low time pilot without Instrument Flight proficiency and did not possess an IFR rating. He was flying in marginal VFR conditions (visual flight rules) over the ocean late in the afternoon. Although legally VFR conditions there was little horizon to reference and one can easily confuse what is straight and level. He crashed his aircraft due to insufficient skill and the knowledge of when one should not fly relative to ones skill. He was spatially disoriented and did not know how to fly instruments.
I have flown at night over the ocean with unlimited visibility and no moon. I flew the flights on instruments with an IFR clearance.
Oddly under these conditions a line of shore line lights at an angle to the direction of flight can give the impression of what straight an level is. This can get you in trouble.
In marginal conditions fly your instruments or stay on the ground.

JFK, Jr.’s name has been on “The Clinton Body Count” list for years — at least a decade, I think.
Wikipedia (yeah, I know) indicates that there were autopsies on all three victims, showing that they “died upon impact”. I’m not sure if the article is correct, as I remember hearing that as soon as they recovered the bodies from the wreckage, they were immediately buried at sea.
