45 ACP Carbine – Hi-Point
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 1/17/2018 | J Hines

Hi-Point 45 ACP Carbine design is one of the most popular among gun hobbyist besides the 9mm.
What’s great about it is that its very inexpensive, constructed using polymers and alloyed metals as much as possible, resulting in a reduction of production costs and sale price. It functions via a simple direct blowback action.

My first exposure to the Hi-Point carbine was with friends plinking in the woods a while back. There are some good and bad things with the Hi-Point, here are a few, not to be the definitive guide.
The Good
Just like their pistol the Hi Point JHP 45 ACP Handgun, have fired a couple boxes and there wasn’t any hiccups.
-For accuracy, we only shot at some steel plates from 25 yards with no problems. The purpose was this not only for accuracy but speed as well.
-The carbine has plenty of rail space if you wish to add lights, lasers, fore grips, etc. -Runs the same magazines as the JHP-45 pistol.
-Action is blowback and that is good enough for all of our favorite Gen-2 Subguns.
-There is a recoil buffer inside the stock that is said to help reduce the recoil.

The Bad
-Single-stack, 9-round type.
This is ok, but in today’s world its about high capacity mag. We have seen an extended magazine available (ProMag) out in the market, but have yet to try it.
-Disassembly was like taking apart a rocket.
The clips, holding pins just wasn’t intuitive like other guns.
-The rails are the Weaver type and that can bring up problems attaching certain accessories that are designed for Mil-Spec Picatinny systems.

I have the 9mm version and love shooting it. Fairly accurate and recoil is nothing. Again the only downside is the small magazine size that comes with the piece.

The Bad - Single-stack, 9-round type. This is ok, but in today’s world its about high capacity mag.

I have a .45 ACP pistol that has a 15 round standard magazine. It's double-stacked, of course, but only 9-rounds for a semi-auto "black" carbine with removable magazines seems like a major "minus" to me. A 20-25 round double-stacked magazine would make the weapon much more desirable to me.

Of course, if it is really as difficult to disassemble as the review says it is, then I would not be interested in it anyway.

Are they really as difficult to disassemble as the reviewer says?

I’m hoping for a .45ACP version of the new Ruger PC Takedown (currently available in 9mm). If they do the interchangeable magazine well feature on the .45, it might be able to use either 1911 or Glock mags.

Hipoint carbines are accurate and very reliable. They also have a lifetime no questions asked guarantee. No matter what stupid thing you do to break the gun they repair it for free and will send you 2 free mags for your trouble. The worst thing about them (besides looks) is the mushy trigger which has no clean break. It feels similar to a DAO trigger but less consistant.

I prefer the Thompson for a long arm .45 ACP.

“Marlin Campgun in .45acp.”

I’d love to find one of those.

Marlin should make them again or someone should build a clone.

“Marlin should make them again or someone should build a clone.”

I had a chance to buy a used one years ago. But my wife was expecting Lurker Jr. and the funds just weren’t there. I should have bitten the bullet and let her bitch. She did that about everything anyway.

My dad owns a pristine one. Fired maybe a hundred rounds through it. He carries it with his 1911A1 since mags are interchangeable. He paid $350 for it new; gun show prices are around $1200 - many 9mm’s but nobody wants them.

The more I hear about them I’m glad my dad didn’t sell his. It’s pristine, looks like it just came out of the box.

It takes standard 1911 magazines, too. Sure wish I’d bought it when I had the chance.

Yep I’m hoping for a 45 Ruger carbine taking Glock mags too. I have a 45 HiPoint and it is a GREAT pcc for the money...ugly and low capacity but utterly reliable and accurate.
