Things That Make Me Worry About The Sustainability Of Planet Earth

This week’s category winner: Calling millennials “snowflakes” is damaging to their mental health, reveals survey of 16-24 year olds.calvin-on-building-character_snowflake

My first concern is the fact that anyone would even think to conduct such a survey.  My second is that it’s not just the snowflakes themselves buying into this victim du jour mentality:

The thoughts were echoed by adults of all ages, with 58 per cent claiming the label is unfairly applied, the survey showed.

A further 57 per cent felt that the term 'generation snowflake' could also harm the mental health of young people.

Instead of telling these post-millennials (which most of the 16-24 age group technically is) that sticks and stones may break their bones but names will never hurt them, they agree that they have a right to have hurt feelings over a term they find offensive. And I suspect they’d all be fine with banning the use of “snowflake” from campuses everywhere. snowflakes for tyranny

I used to think the snowflakes were funny with their triggers and safe-spaces and no platforms and hashtag campaigns but now I find their mentality threatening to the future of life on the planet. What if they get a job performing critical services and the boss yells at them or something? Or worse, what if the little pot-bellied pig in NOKO does something really stupid? I don’t think safe spaces and hashtags will be of much use.

So in the interest of preserving the planet for yet another generation of hopefully tougher humans I am passing on this advice: “the best way to get over being offended is simply Don’t. Be. Offended. Stop it!

I wonder if more of the millenials are snowflakes than there were in previous generations, or if the baby boomers and generation X bosses and teachers put up with crap from the whining 10% and the press trip over those learning and working to interview those begging for safe spaces.

If they were suddenly in an extremely difficult situation in which they would have to think and act very decisively to survive an existential threat, I think the snowflakism would melt away. For example, WWII did not leave snowflakes in its wake.

25th Canadian Infantry Battalion War Diary Entry:

1917-04-28 PAGE 9... D Company were engaged in heavy bayonet fighting with enemy in first stage. As soon as objective was satisfactorily cleared the advance posts were pushed forward and several hundred yards more of enemy ground was secured and our position protected. In the operation Lieut R F Bell was killed. He was O. C. 'D' coy and displayed great gallantry and leadership. Lieut J H Wallace of C Coy was also killed in the advance. Remaining casualties Lieut R Lewis and Lieut J S Turkington, wounded and 100 O. R. (Other Ranks) killed and wounded....

Snowflakes should be taught history. Robert Fleming Bell was no snowflake. He was awarded a 'Mentioned in Despatches' for the above actions... The only British gallantry award other than the Victoria Cross that can be issued posthumously.

History offers everyone perspective... Life is a dream we should all live to it's fulfilment and you freaking weak-kneed snowflakes better figure that out and suck it up.

Calling millennial “snowflakes” causes them to melt — proving the assertion.

The rot began with the agricultural revolution. It's been a downhill slide for humanity ever since.

But then we do have iPhones, so that's something.
