Reining in federal land ownership--a drop in the bucket When the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument was designated under President Clintons purview in 1996, it created real hardship for regional ranchers. New management rules locked up more than one and a half million acres, discontinuing grazing leases that were imperative to sustain cattle growers whod been using the land responsibly for more than a century.
Part of the impetus for closing off natural resource development at the time was to halt access to one of the best sources of low sulfur coal, including from tribal populations, putting a stranglehold on arid land limited economies. Instituting the monument spelled financial disaster to Four Corners ranch industry as well as the Navajo that has tried to expand their coal industry. One of the reasons Clinton closed off the coal was a backroom deal made to bump up the price of the commodity being mined in Indonesia. It removed U.S. competition at the expense of Native America that, on the other hand, has been tagged to protest pro-growth projects like Dakota Access Pipeline and, now, truncating Bears Ears National Monument.
Even the lefties in Nevada don’t want to control their state. They don’t trust the state. Clinton & Obama were there for them.
People ignore the fact that in both case, the Federal Government owns most of the lands already.

Time to start returning most of that land back to the individual states.
Federal lands should be decided by the congress of the United States. This has been illegally delegated to the executive branch and used for political weapons. This usurpation is unconstitutional .
Sell it only to flesh and blood American Citizens. Let them pay a bit extra if they want allodial title (hey, the States weren’t collecting property tax on it anyway) ... this ONLY transmits (tax free) in sale or inheritance to other flesh and blood American Citizens, no entities, foreigners or LLCs need apply.
If allodial title is voided because a foreigner or entity acquires it, it’s voided ... too bad, so sad ... they could expect the seller to agree to a lower sale price for the loss of perceived value though (subject to negotiation).
Not how it works...The whole of Utah was Federal Land at one time. They sold part of it and retained the rest.
The reason Clinton created the monument was simple-lock out American low sulfur coal so that his pal Riady in Indonesia could control the market- in exchange for big bucks, of course. The Clintons are so filthy.

for example, 84% of land in Nevada is federally owned. 54% of Utah, 45% of California...you get the idea.
bkmk
You are wrong.
I do NOT believe that they OWN the land-—but they definately do CONTROL those lands.
IF they owned the land—shouldn’t they be paying property taxes like all the rest of us who DO own our land???
The federal lands kept after the Mexican-American war were never intended to be kept in perpetuity. When the states there were formed, the idea was to put lands under state management, as is the case in most of the East. This never happened. The Feds just flipped the bird to limited federal authority. As a sop to the idea of federalism, and to avoid a rebellion, the Feds “allowed” ranchers and such to use the land. But it was always supposed to be under the aegis of the states and the people. Now, federal lands belong to DC. Period.
Maybe we have to wait until after next November.
It was...You can go to the Congressional records and research every facet.
