The NFL has taken a beating over players kneeling during the national anthem, but a closer examination shows that the protests are less a story of the league as a whole and more a tale of two liberal cities: San Francisco and Seattle.
On any given Sunday, the vast majority of those refusing to stand for The Star-Spangled Banner play for the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, teams nestled in famously left-wing locales and led by owners who sought to keep Donald Trump out of the White House.
That doesnt include blips like Sept. 25, which saw nearly 200 players kneel in reaction to President Trumps suggestion that owners should fire protesters, or Oct. 29, when all but 10 of the Houston Texans took a knee after owner Bob McNair said the NFL cant have the inmates running the prison.
But those days were distinct exceptions. Most Sundays look more like Nov. 5, when 11 of the 15 players who sat or knelt for the national anthem wore the uniforms of the Seahawks or 49ers, according to the ESPN tally.

we refuse to give NFL one red cent of our hard-earned money anymore! this anti-American display krap is disgusting!
NFL GTH!
Keep kneeling. Let’s draw as clear and as obvious a line between the sides as possible.
I hope a list is kept of every player in the NFL who took the knee even once.
Oh well. Watch that 34% of revenue lost trickle on down.
Nice try no cigar.
200 players kneeled. Once is as good as all season.
Besides, a lot of had already stopped watching because the game has been ruined by the league.
Does not matter if it is once or every game.
And BTW, if you think standing and linking arms is being respectful...FU!
Seaturkeys are dead to me. Maybe they could move to L.A.
Stopped briefly by NBC to see what was on and happened to see that there was an NFL game. Promptly changed it, but not before I saw the Seahawks “resplendent” in their all Chartreuse (or, as my father called it, $h!+-reuse) uniforms and the Cardinals looking equally bizarre in all black with white helmets, more like white-headed cockroaches than athletes.
I think I can deal with the kneeling better than these insipid “color rush” uniforms that the NFL is pushing for their national games. At least you only have to deal with a few jagoffs kneeling for a couple minutes at the start of the game. These uniforms are worn by the entire team for the entire game. Almost makes me yearn for the old days of Black & White TV!
I’d disagree with the author, this doesn’t boil down to 2 cities. Players and some owners in multiple cities disrespected our country. Their actions were a reflection of what is in their heart/mind. For them to stop kneeling doesn’t necessarily mean they realize how obnoxious they were, I’d suspect it their greater concern of lost revenue.
The NFL has yet to fix this, and inaction has only made it worse. My decades long NFL addiction was surprisingly easy to break.
All of football, including the Negro Felon League, no longer exist to me.
Sorry. Not buying it. The substitute protest of the “linked arms” is still SJW lecturing and I’m not interested. I used to watch to see a football game, if I want a lecture I’ll turn on C Span.
I agree, the uniforms for both teams were nauseating last night. I can’t stand the lime green; I really wish they’d get rid of them.
You are absolutely correct. It was an easy habit to break.
I look back and enjoy the memories. The NFL has never been the same since Cosell, Dandy Don or Frank.
I’ll give Madden a ton of credit as he kept it going.
Costas, not so much after his stupid diatribe about the 2nd.
The players of the NFL decided they no longer supported the Country I volunteered to defend.
Fair enough. I no longer support you.
The NFL is dead to me, finished.
Let the democrats & BLM types keep the league flush with spending money.
No, it boils down to the entire league is going to be held to account for the actions of anyone in it.
You failed to control them, thus you will be controlled.
Too bad, so sad, better luck next league. Live and learn.
Within two years the NFL is going to be back to the level of popularity and coverage as that of the 1920s.
The locking arms is just as bad. They are sending a message, and we got it.
