Falling NFL ratings are directly impacting CBS, Fox earnings
The Blaze ^ | October 17, 2017 | Sarah Taylor

CBS’ and Fox’s projected earnings will suffer a hit, according to two separate reports by Credit Suisse, and falling NFL ratings will continue to impact network earnings so long as they are on a downward trend.

Why are earnings suffering? CBS’ crashing NFL ratings will directly impact company earnings, Omar Sheikh, Credit Suisse analyst, said.

Special: 3 foods to avoid in 2017 “We expect third-quarter network advertising to decline 3 percent (previously +1 percent), driven by soft ratings for both the summer schedule and for the start of the NFL season,” Sheikh said, according to CNBC. “With only one of the three content licensing deals we expected for the second half announced in third quarter, we also expect content licensing revenue growth to be skewed to the fourth quarter.”

CBS’ NFL ratings are down 17 percent from year over year.

Sheikh said that Fox is also beginning to feel the effects of tumbling NFL ratings and will continue to do so if ratings aren’t pulled up — and soon.

“NFL ratings [are] weak so far,” Sheikh said. “This was negatively impacted during the first two weeks by hurricane disruption, but is disappointing given the soft comps – if ratings do not improve materially, we see a potential headwind to domestic advertising revenues in Q2/Q3 ’18.”

Fox’s NFL ratings are down 7 percent for the first five weeks of the season year over year.

What are people saying about the current state of the NFL? According to President Donald Trump, ratings are down because of the NFL player protests.

Trump in September tweeted, “NFL attendance and ratings are WAY DOWN. Boring games yes, but many stay away because they love our country. League should back U.S.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted last week that the NFL is in a “very volatile and dangerous place.”

“It is very sensitive. It is chipping away at the popularity of the sport,” Schefter added. “There are people who are turned off to what’s happening. There are people canceling their DirecTV subscriptions.”

yeah, i don’t think they seen nuttin yet, given the reports they gonna operate a “boot camp” for protesting crybabies and support a “criminal justice reform” bill in Congress, thereby turning the NFL from a football organization into an anti-Trump political advocacy organization. Might as well just watch CNN at that point ...

It had to happen. They needed to be taught a lesson and that’s exactly what’s happening. And it will continue to happen until the social justice filth that has poisoned the league has been removed. And some people have been lost for good and will never return. I hope people realize how earth shaking it is to see die hard Steeler fans burning their tickets and terrible towels. Or Packers fans burning cheeseheads. The fact that you’ve pushed your most loyal supporters to this point is unfathomably stupid.

I’ve seen some great college games and haven’t missed the NFL at all. I just hope the colleges don’t screw themselves up by copying the pros.

Such a foolish move; they should have never injected race into something in which they can’t force people to participate (like workplace diversity seminars or college classroom rants). The election of Trump showed a lot of us never “got with the program” regarding the last eight years of anti-American leftism spewed from the top; football already had issues (too many commercials, devolving into “touch football”, economic pressures on the middle class consumers) - and for many this was the last straw.

  NFL = National Football League
NFL = National Felon League
NFL = Not For Long
NFL = No Fans Left

Youtube:    Pittsburgh fan, viral  "Done with NFL,  3:18
"............... Pittsburgh Steelers fan—who said his name is Robert L. Williams, a master electrician from Texas, said he’s “done with the NFL.”

He took out “a $450 leather jacket” with the Steelers logo on the back. “Watch me burn it,” Williams stated. He also took out his hats and sweaters.

“My great uncle’s bones are lying in the bones of Pearl Harbor,” Williams added. “You do not disrespect the flag and the country, and the Constitution, and why we have our freedoms,” he said. “So watch this stuff burn.”?.............

 Worth repeating online message:

When my president lied to me and claimed 4 of my comrades were murdered because of a video insulting Muslims...I didn't take a knee.

When my president shipped pallets of cash to my sworn enemy...I didn't take a knee.

When my president failed to identify Muslims as terrorists and Islam as an enemy of the state...I didn't take a knee.

When my president claimed that a man who tried to kill another man who lawfully defended himself could be his son...I didn't take a knee.

When my president defended a thug who bum rushed law enforcement...I didn't take a knee.

When my president ordered businesses to spend unnecessary funds to appease a minority of people who need mental intervention far more than they need their own toilet...I didn't take a knee.

When my president ordered that words 'one nation under God' be removed from the pledge of allegiance...I didn't take a knee.

When my president lied to me and said I could keep my doctors and my premiums would go down...I didn't take a knee.

When my president spent my tax dollars in foreign lands to interfere in their elections...I didn't take a knee.

While my president sat by passively and enabled ISIS to emerge as a stronger force dedicated to spreading Islamic ideals by committing murder, rape and torture...I didn't take a knee.

When my president allowed dictators and murderers to violate his red lines and continue to murder women and children with chemical gas...I didn't take a knee.

When my president chastised law enforcement for their actions but ignored the violence in our streets...I didn't take a knee.

When my president identified the weather as the greatest threat to America's safety while Muslims worldwide are murdering innocent people...I didn't take a knee.

While my president's insistence that pacifism and reform in numerous areas of the globe would bring peace but instead led to the strengthening of those that seek to destroy us...I didn't take a knee.

When the election of my president broke barriers never thought possible in America ended up being the high point of his eight years in office...I didn't take a knee.

In all that time I never disrespected our Country, our Armed Forces and Veterans, or our Nation. I remained vigilant. And I got a new president...... #maga-

It’s not rocket surgery. The NFL has reaped what it sowed. That includes the Commissioner, the owners, those who support their Anti-American/Anti-Patriotic behavior, and of course the loser kneelers.

I do feel for the players who don’t believe in what the Kneelgroes are doing but just like one bad apple can spoil the whole bushel; so can a hand full of Kneelgroes.

Wanna kneel? Do it at the appropriate time and for the right reasons; not during the National Anthem while we give respect to those who made our freedom possible by doing everything they could up to giving their lives which most of those Kneegroes have never done.

Respect is earned; not given. The NFL has lost the respect of all Patriotic Americans who love their country up to and including fighting to the death for it. This is what the NFL does NOT understand.

The cat is out of the bag now. The NFL is a far left communist organization and there’s simply no way to get that cat back in the bag. The only cure for this is to shut down the NFL permanently and forever.

I just hope America doesn’t cave in around Superbowl time.

Thats where we’ll see how many of us don’t celebrate that Sunday “holiday” anymore. Lots of non-football fans also watch it. In fact, I once remember my friends wife saying she likes to watch the commercials. Her IQ was about 50. Who on earth watches commercials voluntarily?

If the ratings and interest are down for the bowl, then we’ll know that it’s really working.

>I just hope America doesn’t cave in around Superbowl time.

It’s not actually an organized boycott. It’s more general disgust directed at the NFL. Even if they reverse themselves they’re not going to get most of those people back. Loyalty is hard to destroy, but once gone very unlikely to return.

There is an organized boycott scheduled for the Veterans Day weekend games on Nov 12. We’ll see how that goes. If this crap keeps up, I’m betting it will be impactful.

Fans did cave for last year Super Bowl and the ratings were pretty much normal after a season of lower ratings. I didn't watch the last year's Super Bowl and I guess I missed a pretty good game but that's the way it goes.

BTW, tell your friend that she can watch all the Super Bowl commercials on YouTube the day after the Super Bowl. Although most of the SB commercials suck anymore but that's a different discussion.

Excellent. Way to go, patriotic Americans. To hell with the NFL. I was a lifelong fan. I’m done. They have destroyed my enjoyment of it. I’m not obligated to put up with this crap. Hope they enjoy thier shrinking salaries as much as they enjoyed sabotaging thier own jobs. Flaming idiots.

There are three methods of measuring their financial in-flow of revenue: (1) ticket sales at the stadium (remembering that if you discount tickets just to fill up the stadium, you make minimum profit from those tickets), (2) NFL merchandising of fan paraphernalia, and (3) TV viewership.

On ticket sales...most tickets were sold back in spring, and unaffected by this season’s actions. I would take a guess that most popular teams have sold all tickets for 2017. The lesser teams probably hold 100,000 tickets to be sold for the remaining games. What happens in the play-off games will be curious. Then you come to spring of 2018 and potentially lagging sales where you offer ticket packages of maybe four tickets for the price of three, to get seats sold. In this case, they are losing money.

On the merchandise...it was stupid upper-middle-class guys paying $75 for special jerseys, and $700 for leather Falcon jackets. I think 50-percent of the income off this area is very likely.

As for viewership? Your big sign will be the network charge for Super Bowl advertising. If it drops by five to ten percent...it’s a pretty big negative.

All of this will lead the networks in negotiation for the next big contract to review things and probably drop their offer for the contract by twenty-percent. The NFL will shop around and try to find a better deal.

I’d also suggest the NCAA draft picks probably won’t see the same offerings as in the past two or three years. My humble guess is that they will be five to ten percent cuts on offers.

I refuse to patronize my favorite bbq joint on NFL play days.

Which is fine I suppose, as they only serve Beef ribs on tue/wed.

You would have to taste their beef to understand why...
