Same here. I’ve given up and now drive a Lexus ES, but I do look enviously at a Mustang GT350 and BMW M240.

Heh.
Detroit, MI - Ford Motor Company announced today the new Ford Exorbitant. The Ford Exorbitant seats 50 comfortably, and even comes with a spare Ford Explorer. The Exorbitant, built on a standard bus frame is the largest SUV ever manufactured. Aside from the spare Explorer, other standard features include a full kitchen, 3 bedrooms, and 1.5 bathrooms.

Nice lookin’ Chevy!
I’ve got a 1998 Ford Explorer 4x4 complete with a few dents and a little rust here and there.
Bought it used two years ago and it’s now 99.99% road worthy. Great for deer hunting and weekend home project hauling.
I’ve got about $3K in it after repairs.

Yep. My Pappaw drove an old F-1 that he got at a Forest Service auction. It ran like a top for 40 years until the day he died.

That's nothing. People are already shelling out quite a bit more than that for F-650 pickups:

My days of getting in and out of sports cars gracefully are over sadly. You’d think with an aging population car companies would see the sense in designing something comfortable to get in and out of, but wasn’t frigging fugly, inside or out.

If you plan to buy a new Ford truck, you better have a top notch mechanic with the full factory computer setup already working on your equipment.
These things are a nightmare, and the dealerships do not have the expertise or the ability to keep one running when the trucks are used for business.
We run 2 of them as work trucks, and the only shop that can work on them is usually very backed up working on city and county owned trucks from as far away as 150 miles! Or you can just drop your truck at the dealer, leave it a week and pick it up with the same problem, sometimes more, when you get it back.

Don’t know about ugly, but there are lots of stock hot rod SUVs for exactly the reasons you describe. American brands are late to the hot rod SUV game though at least Jeep has made an effort.

Vehicles used to be fun, darn it. If I could own any car, or 2, it would be a Ford Model 48 and a Duesenberg, any Duesenberg. Good thing we don’t have a garage. :-)

As much as other luxury vehicles can cost it is high time they started to do this with pickup trucks.

Waste their hard earned money?? Excuse me journalist, but if I earned the money LEGALLY, I believe I can 'waste' it in any which way I want to. If I want to buy a $100,000 F-450, I have the right to, unless liberals wants to pass a law saying we have to buy only a car the size of a golf cart.
My trucks are a Ford Excursion, a F-250 crew cab and a Ford Transit.

We bought out first Ford vehicle.... Its going to be our last Ford vehicle...We have had the same experience: I won't bother with the details. Our '94 F-350 still works fine, though.
To: mewzilla
We are running a 350 and a 450. Powerful trucks, and real world performance far exceeds the official specs. But when something breaks, they are down a long time.

If I had a $100k to drop on a pickup truck, I'd get one of these man sized ones

That’s an old photo.
Glad you like it.
I have the hood and fenders off, heavy GM cancer in places.
It runs ok. Cooling system and 4bbl replacements are next.

I'm old enough to remember when a pick up truck had manual steering, AM radio, sat 2 or 3 people, roll-up windows, vents, no air conditioner and were just made to haul things.
And if you could make and sell one with no airbags, traction control, CAFE penalties, etc. You could probably make a solid full-sized truck for $15,000.

huh? just take $70,000 and flush in down the toilet and save yourself some time, because that’s what that POS is going to be worth in a few years!
