Our Sports-Talk-Radio-Caller President
National Review ^ | September 25, 2017 | Jim Geraghty

...

Saturday, at a rally supporting Luther Strange in Alabama, President Trump decided to reignite the issue, and essentially argued that players who kneel for the national anthem should be fired: “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, get that son of a b—h off the field right now? He is fired!”

Once again, we see most people’s perspective on whether one’s personal views should cost them their job depend almost entirely upon whether one agrees with their views. If you’re on the Left, you think that a baker ought to be fired if he refuses to bake a wedding cake for gays, that Kentucky clerk Kim Davis should have been removed from office, that the Google guy deserved to be fired, and that no NFL player should be fired for taking a knee. Many conservatives feel the precise opposite in each case. Many Americans believe in First Amendment protections in the workplace for viewpoints they agree with and no protections for viewpoints they oppose.

It’s one thing for you or me to say, “they ought to fire that guy.” It’s another thing for the President of the United States, with enormous power and influence over laws, regulations, federal policy, and government personnel decisions to do so. The National Football League will interact with the federal government plenty of times in the Trump era: antitrust exemptions, military plane fly-overs, security for the Super Bowl and other big events, tax laws. Every time the federal government balks at a league request, some will wonder, is this based of the merits of the arguments, or is this because of Trump’s fight with the players over the national anthem?

I'm sure one of the reasons he dropped this turd in the punch bowl on Friday was to distract from Congress' utter failures on those things.

Ding ding ding....Winner! Bless you...

Probably took Trump all of two seconds to send that Tweet.

Yes, and give attention to the desperate attention-seekers who will now seek even more.

He should tweet that what football players think about anything is not worth his time & encourage all Americans to simply ignore them all.

I think locking ones arms together shows just as much disrespect as kneeling.

Disrespecting our flag and anthem is corrosive to our nation.
For the football league that purports to be for OUR nation, that’s unacceptable.
The league should have nipped this in the bud last year.
They have not and it is spreading.
President Trump was right to call them out.

The New England Pussyhats need a name change.

I'm with you on this. And, believe me, I'm no fan of the NFL frauds and their sanctimony. I'm a life-long Steelers fans and I'm appalled by their actions and post-game comments yesterday, save for Alejandro Villanueva. But the president has bigger fish to fry right now. Yes, he got some applause from the campaign rally but this is not the fight I want him to be leading. Let's get tax reform and healthcare done while we have the majority, however tenuous it is.

Its all about the culture war also, therefore that’s what the President is taking on. And a very brave stand I may say instead hiding like a snowflake.

“The President ought to focus on tax reform, health care, and North Korea instead of picking a fight with NFL players. “

yet more anti-trumpism heard yet again from an old-time FR anti-trumper!

exactly how does a couple of tweets that take less than a minute each to write distract Trump himself from anything?

What DOES get distracted, however, with those two minutes of time is the entire enemedia. In two minutes, Trump has spun them into yet another frenzy of anti-Americanism, demonstrating their fundamental hatred of all things held sacred by the vast majority of our citizens, while Trump himself and his Administration quietly go about keeping his campaign promises to Make America Great Again, accomplishing great things that the enemedia won’t publicize anyway.

You’re trying to convince people here that the Sturm und Drang of the enemedia is somehow related to reality. It is not. And Trump understands that. He plays the enemedia like a fiddle, causing them to rush hither and thither with each tweet he issues.

And in this particular case, he’s also obtained millions of dollars of free publicity demonstrating that he stands as a patriot and a lover or our nation, while goading the reactionary anti-Trump forces into taking public, anti-American stances.

In my opinion, those two minutes that Trump took to write those tweets had invaluable consequences.

You really should take your road-show of anti-Trumpism to the fake conservative, Trump-hating website, therightscoop. You’ll be much happier there and much better appreciated.

Bullshiite. Trump dropped a well deserved MOAB on the communist funded “social justice” movement. Their stealth plan involves destroying high profile, patriotic, normally unifying, symbols and causes. They were largely succeeding, using useful idiots on the teams and media.

Trump blew it up, in a masterly way. They might not know it yet, but it’s a huge setback for the communists behind this fake BLM/BAMN/antifa/indivisible astroturf operation.

Trump knows exactly what he’s doing. Cowardly beta males and bearded pansies should stay under the porch.

The President ought to focus on tax reform, health care, and North Korea instead of picking a fight with NFL players.

Picking a fight? WTF is wrong with you?

Trump is the President of the United States of America. The flag and national anthem of the country he represents is under attack by the NFL and has been for more than a year. It has grown like a cancer spreading to more teams and even down to the high school and junior levels. Kaepernick started it last November in response to the Michael Brown shooting. He is anti-cop and pro BLM.

Trump would be derelict in his duties if he did not speak out against anti-American protests sanctioned by the NFL. The idea that this is free speech is nonsense. The NFL doesn't allow allow all free speech, just speech that supports their leftist agenda. The overwhelming majority of Americans don't support these blatant attacks against the flag and the anthem. Trump is just stating the obvious.

This is just all political. We had Lebron James call Trump a "bum." The Golden State Warriors had already expressed their desire not to go to the WH thru Steve Kerr, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant. They made very nasty remarks about Trump. He withdrew the invitation. Is that picking a fight?

The President can walk and chew gum at the same time. He can focus on all the issues you mentioned as well as state his opinion of what is going on with the NFL.

How does this affect getting his legislative agenda passed? More than 70% of the public agrees with him about the flag and the anthem.

I don’t know, maybe it’ll actually work to our advantage. The scumbag media are chasing their tails crazy right now spewing their garbage. Meanwhile, there’s hardly any attention on healthcare or taxes. If we can get our act together in Congress, we might be able to get both through with minimal opposition from the Dims and their media lapdogs.
