I feel sad for anyone who thinks Hobby Lobby is racist for selling cotton decorations

MSN recently published this news story about a woman in Texas who said Hobby Lobby was racist because it sells cotton decorations.

For something such as this, the context matters a huge amount.

The article includes this picture:

In that context, I don’t see any problem.

They sell cotton balls at every supermarket and pharmacy.

They sell cotton clothing at every clothing store.

There needs to be a distinction between actual racism, and imaginary racism.

Anyone who criticizes Hobby Lobby for selling cotton has allowed herself to be brainwashed by social justice warriors who insist on seeing racism everywhere. I feel sad for her. I hope she find happier, more fulfilling things to focus her thoughts on.

Racism is real. Racism is a very real problem.

But this is not racism.

Let the “offended” first give up wearing cotton clothing completely.

There is also an attack going on Cracker Barrel for having a vase filled with cotton.

Hobby Lobby originated in the South, where we have seeming endless fields of cotton. The stuff, well, grows here. Can’t call Nature racist for growing something nice and useful.

Generally speaking, Racism iis a matter of opinion like anything else in life.

Want to be a racist, have at it. As long as you don’t harm another human being, who cares? I certainly don’t.

Another person’s opinion is their opinion. Freedom in thought and deed.

We used to be a Free Country. I’m still trying to figure out what happened.

Except for maybe a scene from GWTW . . . and same for most people who are alive today . . . the most NON-racist thing I ever heard about cotton . . .

When I was younger, we lived a few years . . . maybe 2nd grade through mid 6th grade in Paris, TX . . .

This is way up in North Texas fairly close to the Oklahoma Border . . .

They had a saying there . . . and one of my great Aunt’s lived in a very rural community where the roads literally followed the property lines of all the cotton farmers . . . so lots of hair pin turns . . . very rural . . .

They said . . . “We’ve got the blackest dirt/soil and the whitest cotton”. Is that racist? I don’t think so. People don’t relate to the 1800’s . . . it was about DIRT and CROPS . . . nothing about who use to pick it. And my very own grandmother and grandfather picked cotton (this was in TX). And my grandparents were white. These would be my paternal grandparents. They were very young, on their own at well before age 20 back then & married . . . during the worst of the Great Depression . . . and YES they picked cotton to make some money in able to afford some FOOD and a Roof Over Their Heads. People did what they had to do. What about those cotton pickers? Am I triggered by a cotton sprig in the floral department at Hobby Lobby? Oh hell no. I recall stories when I was a young kid, of my grandparents, talking about the olden days of how life truly was during the Great Depression and very hard work . . .

Whereas in other areas of the country, GA, AL, MS and southern TN . . . they too grow cotton but is has the RED RED RED soil like Scarlet’s beloved Tara. Even Scarlet herself and her sisters picked cotton after the war and the slaves were long gone . . . so that lady in TX @ The Hobby Lobby needs to just get over herself . . .

My wife brought home some of these cotton balls from Hobby Lobby this week and she said everyone in line with her at checkout had the same thing. They were all laughing at the moron snowflake.

Imagine her dilemma when she has to pick the cotton out of the ibuprofen bottle.
