During a comprehensive Omaha outdoor testing the SIG Sauer P320 – winner of the Army’s new M17 MHS pistol – is the only handgun out of eleven different weapons to fail this comprehensive test, a statement released on August 15 by Omaha Outdoors.

The testing protocol involved dropping the handguns at different angles with a primed case in the chamber (no live round).

None of the ten other handguns – which included four Glocks, two H&Ks, two S&Ws and a 1911 – tested after the P320 fired when dropped. The video released by Omaha Outdoors describing the tests. Here are the ten handguns that were tested:

The results of this test publicly confirm what many – already knew: The SIG P320 appears to have a particular weakness in drop testing not exhibited by virtually any other modern handgun against which it is competing. The weakness was... Read the rest and see the Sig P320 Omaha test fail here.

Sig has already called for a “voluntary upgrade”. You can go to their website to get all the needed info for returning your gun for the fix.

The gif alone makes my stomach hurt and my fingers twitch.

I would never be able to trust a pistol again if it did that.

They found a way to defeat the safe trigger and Sig has fixed the problem. This is not the first time in the industry that recalls have occurred to fix problems.

Disclaimer. I don’t own a Sig P320, but I do intend to add one to my collection of military issue hand guns at some point.

Second disclaimer. I do own a few Glocks as well as Springfield XD’s. Glad to hear they passed the test with flying colors.

Don’t drop your gun. I have two Sig Suer P320, a full size and subcompact. Will check out the fix. temporary or obvious solution is to not keep a round in the chamber.

I think this is only a concern for the French and Italian military.

Just registered both of my P320. So, somewhere in next few weeks, they get shipped in and take 4-6 week turnaround time. Sig is paying all costs--shipping costs they mention--and presumably any FFL transfer fees since, unless I am mistaken, I cannot send/receive the gun directly because of federal laws.

I like my Sigs and luckily have alternatives while these are being fixed.

Don’t drop your gun.

Makes a much sense as telling people, "don't get in a car accident".

Yes.

“I would never be able to trust a pistol again if it did that.”

All sorts of things can happen with a loaded handgun. Handle with care!

.
I’m confident that someone has made a modification to that particular pistol to deliberately cause it to fail.

I suspect that someone has done some edge polishing to that pistol.

“I think this is only a concern for the French and Italian military.”

This test was for dropping a gun...not throwing it down.

;-o
