Lawyers from two prominent LGBTQ advocacy organizations have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on behalf of five transgender service members with almost 60 years of combined military service.
The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) and GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) filed the suit, Doe v. Trump, in response to President Donald Trumps recent tweets calling for a full ban on transgender people serving in the United States military. The ACLU filed a separate lawsuit on Wednesday.
Trumps directive to exclude transgender people from military service has created a tidal wave of harms that have already been felt throughout our armed services, Shannon Minter, a transgender legal expert and NCLR Legal Director, said in a statement sent to HuffPost. Transgender service members have been blindsided by this shift and are scrambling to deal with what it means for their futures and their families. The Presidents mistreatment of these dedicated troops will serve only to weaken and demoralize our armed forces.
According to a press release, the five plaintiffs have served in the Air Force, the Coast Guard, and the Army.
The biggest questions to be raised from Trumps discriminatory directive stem from the thousands of openly transgender people already serving in the United States military ― many of them overseas. A recent study suggests that there are currently between 1,320 and 6,630 transgender individuals actively serving in the U.S. military.
The suit refers prominently to Defense Departments decision in 2016 to allow transgender people to serve openly.....

Gosh. Nobody saw that coming.

Gosh. Nobody saw that coming.
Dog bites man.
are you sure it’s a man the dog bit?
Ooh, slapped. That must hurt.
OH I think President Trump was doing some fishing again and will be bringing up some more ‘swamp creatures’....
LGBTQ advocacy organizations love to slap people.
Send them to Afghanistan and cut off their hormone supply and then let them go to court to demand the military keep them in.
Most major surgeries, which I am sure gender reassignment would be considered, prevent people from meeting requirements for entry into the armed forces. As a retired Vietnam and Gulf War veteran I am ashamed of the current status of our military services. The left’s social experimentation has weakened our ability to muster a dedicated force who would be willing to pick up a weapon and charge into battle. No doubt much of those entering service today would yell, “I did not sign up for this” and run the other way.
The courts jurisdiction over the military is very weak. As Commande in Chief I believe President Trump is on unassailable ground.
We have three branches of the Government.
The military falls completely under the control of the President.
I do not believe the courts have any say in this. That is not saying they will not find a stupid liberal judge to rule the way they want.
I would hope President Trump would just ignore them.
Good. We probably won’t get an opportunity to litigate the matter before a more favorable Supreme Court for a while.
We need to go back to Ask-Tell (as before Clinton) and rid the military of perverts.
Go President Trump! So much winning!
Don’t they have to wait until the military actually has a policy based on directions from the White House in place before they sue?
“”created a tidal wave of harms that have already been felt throughout our armed services””
For example? Can they or the attorney name even one other than the lame use of bias/prejudice? What damage? What harm?
Lawfare is Warfare.

In actuality, it will be even more favorable within about two years or less.
Kennedy will retire
Buzzy will just quit moving
Breyer will retire
I say that Kagan will remain after all of these but Sotomeyer will call it quits after having to write all of the dissenting opinions. When liberals hate it when they lose and usually prefer to just quit.
Actually, Congress sets the Rules. The President is an administrator, the proverbial highest ranking officer and not the guy who should make the rules he enforces. Things like DADT or other progressive meddling from the WH that did not involve any legislation being passed were, to the extent that is true, unlawful. Undoing unlawful EOs is perfectly okay though.
A1:S8:C14 “To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;”
And this why we can't have nice things...And one of the very reasons Trump was elected President, if the libs thinks this going to help their cause..."you gottanuther think com'n."
