By contrast, federal statutes do not require that someone who is not a pre-existing creditor must accept currency or coins as payment for goods or services. Private businesses may formulate their own policies on whether to accept cash unless state law requires otherwise.

!% years ago i used to never read my debit card statements i just stuck them in a draw.
One night while bored i decided to go through them and discovered that my fav local restaraunt/bar had double charged me multiple times over the course of a year or more.
I also discover that my sociopathic ex gf stole my card to buy shoes a few times...

Agreed. I had a airline employee tell me that they get away with the ‘cashless’ scam because they take the money before there is a ‘debt’ ( a stretch in my opinion) but after one has eaten and the debt in fact exists, it would seem hard to argue with the notation on the currency. set it on the table and leave. Their ‘policy’ isn’t law.

Just because its legal tender doesnt mean a company HAS to take it. Incorrect. They don't have to make a SALE, but once a sale is made, they must take it.

Reason why a lot of gas stations advertise on signs much lower prices per gallon if you pay in cash.
Wish other businesses would do the same....

Cash tips may not all get reported to the IRS.
Just one of the many reasons cash is being eliminated.
Tracking your every purchase being another.

In a time-honored Free Republic Tradition, I will respond: Despite the fact that my research shows you are right, I shall pigheadedly cling to my error-stricken opinion, and personally attack your honor and sanity, and suggest that you go to a liberal forum.
In the meantime, enjoy some Mungo Jerry.

More flame wars should include Mungo Jerry. I forgot how ugly that band was, life before MTV when people joined bands because that was the only way they’d ever get laid.

The restaurants that fall for this, will proceed to fall off of a cliff.

If you pay cash, the restaurant doesnt have to pay that processing fee. Id rather they keep the money than have to pay the bank to get it. And if everyone paid cash, prices might actually drop and the employers might be able to hire more people for better service.

Doubt it, but it probably has an RFID chip in it, so they could probably get a snapshot of your position whenever you walk past a reader whose take they have access to.

They have to accept cash. They don’t have to accept cards. This is interfering with the businesses rights.
If the business wants to do it they have to make their policy very clear, including their policy on the customer who didn’t read the policy and doesn’t have a card and wants to pay with cash.
If they make their policy quite clear, I’ll go there. Otherwise, no.
