It’s getting down below $1500/lb according to someone I’ve met out in CA who used to grow a lot. I expect after a couple more years it’ll be less than 200-300/lb though ironically the quality is so high here now that higher end stuff is being exported south.
Back when I was a college student in Colorado in the early 1990s, my friends and I would pool our money and get 1/4 pound for $400. This was Mexican ditch weed, full of stems and seeds, but it did the job. Sell it for $35-$40 a quarter oz. and make a nice profit, enough smoke for free and buy more.
The hard part was all our friends that didn't want to buy any of our weed, but rather just come over and smoke what we had. Then they'd pull the cellophane wrapper off their pack of cigarettes, "Dude, could you spot me a nice bud for the road?"
