Lately, I have been walking about 10-15 miles everyday. I started this around Memorial Day. I have been doing this, so that I can get into shape, because I might have to donate a kidney to a woman at my church, and I thought it would be best to be in better shape than I was before going into surgery. I thought it might help fight off complications if they happen with the procedure. I lost 17lbs in 5 weeks.
Anyway, I was about 5 miles away from my house on a through road that I have walked on about 8 times in the past few weeks. Suddenly, a black Nissan Xterra pulled up next to me and two men immediately got out of the car. One of them was extremely ripped, and very scary looking with heavy tattoos and large scars on his face, legs and feet (he had no shoes on). He asked if I opened any of the car doors on the road in front of a house that had a children's birthday party about a half mile back.
He said the kids at the party saw me. It must have been young kids, because they had a large inflatable slide. I told them "no and that I had nothing on me accept my phone, a water bottle and an iPod." He immediately got very close to my face and had both of his fist clenched, and told me that he doesn't believe me. I said "I don't know what else you want me to say, it is the truth, and if the kids thought they saw me do this, they are honestly mistaken or it was someone else." I was afraid of him, and thought he was about to hit me. I tried walking away, but they wouldn't let me pass.
Suddenly a car came, and I asked the driver to stay with me while I waited for the cops. I asked him to stay, because I was afraid they would attack me before the cops came; which sadly was nearly 10 minutes later. The cops asked me repeatedly where I was from, and where I was going. They even asked what I do for a living, and about my family (maybe just to calm me). I said this was part of a 12 mile circuit that I have been doing in preparation for my potential kidney donation in about 2 weeks. I showed them the "fit app" on my phone to demonstrate that I have been in fact logging in some major miles.
I told the cops they can finger print the cars; which they replied that I was seen wearing gloves (by the children). I said, you can send out bloodhounds to look for the said gloves. I also said that they can connected me to a lie detector. Eventually, the cops seemed to believe me and let me walk home.
What does one do in this case? Those two men could have put me in the hospital. The cops could have arrested me based on the kids' statements.
I would file assault charges against the two men, they put you in fear, that is assault.
There is not much you can do except not go past that way again.
One possibility is to get one of those head mounted video cameras that mountain bikers use to make a video of your walks.

I told the officers that the one strong guy assaulted me, but they didn’t care.
But if you can't, wear a GPS tracking fitness watch.
I’ve had things like this happen, as well as attempted robberies. My recourse is simple - I don’t go anywhere unarmed.
“My name is: Here is my driver’s license as identification. The story these men are telling is completely false. Please speak to my attorney if you have any further questions.”
That is a very good idea with the head camera. Yeah, I guess I won’t go that way again. It is a shame it is a somewhat scenic road to walk along.
It sounds to me that you handled it exactly right. Props to you & good luck with the transplant donation.
To be honest, I am afraid these guys might pay me a visit; they might of overheard my address when I was talking to the police.
They would have to prove it was YOU, in court. Apparently they couldn’t.
Conceal carry.
Another alternative is just accept that people are going to accuse you of stealing. And if that’s true, then you might as well actually steal from them. Perhaps offer the kids a marshmallow to keep quiet, or tell them if they talk, CNN will dox them. In other words, at least get some loot to balance out the cost of being assaulted for having done so.
That girls is in a terrible spot. If she doesn’t get one in the next month she will go on dialysis. Right now, I am her only compatible donor. On Monday they will decide I am a suitable donor based on the health screenings they did on me. They found no problems, so I am confident they will go forward using me.
It sounds like you did about the only thing you could do.
Sometimes you just get into a situation in which you are totally innocent but it looks bad.
The cops sound a bit dumb. I am not sure about the laws in your area but you might be able to swear out a warrant against the guy who assaulted you but it is probably best to just let it go.
I tried to keep a posture and tone that would try to convince them of my innocence, but they didn’t want to hear it. They seemed like they were out for blood.
You said too much to the cops.
Keep your mouth shut. Don’t try to “help” cops.
Carry a firearm. Know how to use it.
That is all.
